This book could be a Stephen King book if it were a little more refined. All of the characters are well writen. The plot was great. (better infact than many of King's books) . This book can stand alone or become a series. It gives you an ending with a loophole for the next book.
Most "end of the world" books have only one way of life after the big event. This book explores a more realistic outcome of what could happen. You find your stenght and use it.
The sci fi part is new and old but well thought out and easy to follow. I think that it could have used just a bit more editing to improve the flow.
Some have said that this book is long and does not go anywhere. I disagree. The book's mysteries are given up nicely as the journey progresses and the end has a lessen for man kind. I not only enjoyed the journey I liked the ending. It took a while for me to get used to the idea that someone can live a million years. Even if most of the time was spent in stasis. Think of the possibilities!
Names: Enico- Amaco??, Conico -Coneeco??, Kenya- Conya ?? Dog F@cker and Who??? Ginko. The narrator keeps changing the way he pronouces the names. It takes a long time to figure out that this person is that person: Huksoon - Oxsen. I made myself listen to four hours. I think that I had 30 or more names in my head. I am not sure how many people that is. 10, 20???? Anderson has three names I think? I have listened to many many hours of lectures on Quantum Theory and string theory. They are both easier to follow. It is like bits and parts of other peoples' dreams. I could not keep track of a time line or anyones wants or motives. green bands?? , white shirts????? yellow cards ???? I do not know what any of these things are. They talk about joules of power ( watts) and jewels, as in diamonds. I was never sure which one was which. Both are valuable and hold power in there own ways.
I read the book years ago and it was great!!! I could not get past the reader. He sounds like a stuck up British chain smoker reading a grocery list. The first hour I could not stop thinking that he needs to clear his throat. He reads without any pauses making it hard to keep up with the story. You never know who is talking. His voice is very weak and sharp. I would say more if I did not think that it would be removed for lack of political correctness. Do yourself a favor and listen to the sample.

Although this is a (fiction science fiction) book. I was surprised to find much of the science grounded in real science. The book is written in a way that you can enjoy the story with or without a knowledge of science. Many times I got caught up in the book and then realized that they had made a reference to a science that few would know about. I kept this in mind and found that an understanding of the science was not needed. It just served as a bonus for the readers that did have a knowledge of the reference. This is a multi level book that can provoke thought between chapters. This is a good book for people that like to ask "what if".
