Great narrator for a great concept. Only complaint was the book was too short. I wanted it to go on. Loved the lead female character...It's about time. She was strong, but not overdone with a chip on her shoulder like an actress in a bad movie that overdoes her part. She reminded me a bit of the male lead in the movie "American Beauty"..." I'm just a regular guy with nothing to lose". Those types of people can do amazing things and that's exactly what she did. Juxtapose her with the male lead who was brilliant but a bit of a twit who had me pulling out my hair and screaming ,"Stupid, Why did you do that!" Great book.
This was a tepid story at best, but the thing I really like about it was you found out more about Acheron's back story and that is what I'm dying to find out about. It was a good listen, nothing wrong with it, but I never bought the chemistry and once again there was the miracle save at the end and THAT is getting old. So the back story and finding more out about the demons was definetly worth the listen.
Where go I begin. Very satisfying wrap ups to several of the storylines. The pace is well set, never drags and keeps you guessing all the way through. Characters well written with good insight and much more humor than I anticipated, I found myself laughing out loud several times during this book, especially during some of Mat's scenes. I just can't believe that after this many books they have wrapped it up this well, it is a very satisfying read, well done. You will REALLY enjoy this book. I've listened to it twice already. GREAT ending, I almost died.
Warning to the fainthearted-if you can't tolerarte your religion being questioned, then don't order this book because you will be offended. It very much reminded me of the age of enlightenment where religion did not hold sway over all and learning was not only allowed but encouraged and certain members of the religious community were very outraged and let's face it terrified of these opposing doctrines. The characters are written with depth and humanized very well so I often found myself actively engaged in the vigorously moving plot, fearing for their safety, bemoaning their downfalls, cheering their victories. The main female protagonist is plucky and precocious and just a joy to read. Great book.
This book was O.K. The accents are terrible and the narrator needs to work on this. They all sound the same. Once again Ash comes in at the end and fixes everything for the protagonists and the world is filled with sunshine. You may note my sarcasm. It's just hard listening to a woman whine through an entire book about how she's going to die at 27 when you know someone is going to save her. It is a bit anticlimactic you know.
These books are good. I like the chemistry between Talon and Sunshine. Sometimes I think the author is a little junior highschool. I mean, come on, we are adult readers.." he has the hottest backside".. what is that. I believe most women, like me, feel perfectly comfortable using an alternative word for that. Could be a little more hardcore is all.Like the character developement and the story. Really want to see what happens with Ash! Otherwise this is O.K. I guess I'm just use to Trueblood:)
I usually don't read this type of book, but I have to say, it was great fun. Dick Francis takes you you on a fascinating, catch-me-if-you-can caper with the most dysfuctional (and hysterical) family the world has ever seen. It was really worth the credit. Great fun!
One can hear that Stephen King found a mentor for his writing style by listening to this book. Loved the "stream of consciousness" writing style and the abundance of dark humor. Several of the reviewers found this book to be sad, but I found myself laughing out loud at Kurt's commentary on war, human being's desire for it and the abject futility of it all.
The story was well written and the plot was intricate, almost too much so. One could tell that the author had developed her world well and placed her characters into a rich and vivid enviroment that intertwined with each other in impossible ways, but I could never buy into it. It was interesting, but I guess I could never get behind the heroine. Yes, she was intelligent and edgy and I am a woman that is totally fine with sex, but she never "did it" for me. I could never "fret" for the characters or what might happen to them.....so I probably won't follow the series.
I wasn't expecting much from this book. I puchased it for $4.95 and I never read this type of espionage/crime drama, but the author yanked me in with a titillating chapter 1 that literally had me saying "Oh my God!" in the dark at midnight as he shocked me with the end of chapter 1. I couldn't go to bed on account of this book. It did not stop there. The characters were well developed, the language was rich and vivid and The Needle...well..he developed him so well that I have trouble deciding if he was a protagonist or an antagonist. This is war, right? He was fighting for his country and I found , in the end, that I did admire him. One caution- the narrator does read quite fast and the producer set this audiobook up to read like a 1940's "radio show". That's my theory anyway, with the way the voices come in and out with "poor" editing, the over the top accents, it reminds me of old radio shows I've heard. I found it never got in the way of the story except I really had to listen closely and had to rewind my IPOD with a few of the heavier accents which I was more than happy to do as the story was so good.
This is not exactly neurosurgeon reading, but for its purpose, to get you off, I give it 5 stars. For a woman, like myself, I find the author gives enough credence to the developement of the intimancy of the relationship between the couples in the story. Therefore, that makes the sex especially hot. Nicely done.
