Rich and handsome, the hope of ambitious mothers and despair of his sisters, the Marquis of Alverstoke sees no reason to put himself out for anyone. But when a distant connection applies to him for help, he finds himself far from bored.

An enjoyable book that is not too deep. I would call this ear candy! You know it is going to turn out just fine and you really want it to.

When English agent Gene Hawkins told his boss he'd forego his vacation to search for millionaire Dave Teller's prized missing stallion, he didn't know his retainer would include the attention of his boss's beautiful teenage daughter - or Teller's seldom sober wife. He also didn't know that a trail from London to New York to Las Vegas to California would lead eventually to murder.

I enjoyed this book. I have read or listened to many Dick Francis books. He has a tendency to be very violent and morbid. He managed to control his penchant for violence to beset his main characters in this book. His main character was very serious and there were several opportunities for him to be beaten, tortured, mentally abused etc. However, Dick did not maximize these opportunities as much as he had in some of the other works I have read. It was refreshing not to have this happen. I can only take so much gratuitous self destruction in one sitting. It was a nice surprise to have less of this in this particular publication. The characters were likeable and did not get beaten up so badly that it seemed unbelievable. I listened to this book all in one day as I was painting trim at my son's house and I was not bored and not shaking my head. Thanks for a good book Dick!

Molly Murphy always knew she'd end up in trouble, just as her mother predicted. So, when she commits murder in self-defense, she flees her cherished Ireland, under cover of a false identity, for the anonymous shores of late 19th-century America. When she arrives in New York and sees the welcoming promise of freedom in the Statue of Liberty, Molly begins to breathe easier. But when a man is murdered on Ellis Island, a man Molly was seen arguing with, she becomes a prime suspect in the crime.

This is a reasonable read. It is entertaining and easy to follow. The downsides are that it is too formula and seems to be a historical book written by a modern person. I enjoyed it but did not believe it!

All Mrs. Pollifax has to do is help a bumbling CIA agent confirm the identities of seven undercover informants in Morocco. A simple assignment. But right away, things go wrong. Acclaimed as "a technothriller set in the age of the Medicis" by Publishers Weekly, Eric Flint's best-selling Ring of Fire series has redefined the alternate-history genre. In this 10th novel, auto mechanic Bernie Zeppi heads to Moscow to bring Russia into the Industrial Revolution, 300 years ahead of schedule. War with Poland looms, but Bernie is more focused on a beautiful Russian noblewoman. Can he protect them both from the power struggles raging inside the Kremlin?

I have listened to the whole series. I have enjoyed them very much. My only complaint has been the DETAILED !!! descriptions of battles which I do not enjoy. This is the best so far, in many ways because they focus on the characters and not the battle scenes.

Entertaining and fun! Hope there is more to come!

When the last honest citizen of Poisonville was murdered, the Continental Op stayed on to punish the guilty--even if that meant taking on an entire town. Red Harvest is more than a superb crime novel: it is a classic exploration of corruption and violence in the American grain. From the author of The Maltese Falcon.

Low-level entertainment lawyer Nick Carter thinks it's a prank, not an alien encounter, when a redheaded mullah and a curvaceous nun show up at his office. But Frampton and Carly are highly advanced (if bumbling) extraterrestrials. And boy, do they have news. The entire cosmos, they tell him, has been hopelessly hooked on humanity's music ever since "Year Zero" (1977 to us), when American pop songs first reached alien ears. This addiction has driven a vast intergalactic society to commit the biggest copyright violation since the Big Bang.

A very light book that is good mind candy. Has a few pithy things to say about our priorities but for the most part an entertaining enough book. The characters are likeable and no one gets hurt! Good choice for easy listening.

Perhaps it is a blessing when Jasmine Dent dies in her sleep. At last an end has come to the suffering of a body horribly ravaged by disease. It may well have been suicide; she had certainly expressed her willingness to speed the inevitable. But small inconsistencies lead her neighbor, Superintendent Duncan Kincaid, to a startling conclusion: Dent was murdered. But if not for mercy, why would someone destroy a life already doomed?

I started this book 3 times before I got into it enough to keep listening till the end. Once I got past the first few chapters I was actually hooked. The characters are enjoyable and became very real to me. The exploration into the backgrounds of all the participants was revealing. No one is as simple as they look on the surface and some of the apparently strong people have hidden weaknesses and the apparently weak have hidden strength. Although it deals with a murder the book conveys a sense of hope in the end.

There isn't much fun in the sun when a billionaire real estate tycoon is found murdered on the Tilt-a-Whirl at a seedy seaside amusement park in the otherwise quiet summer tourist town of Sea Haven. John Ceepak, a former MP just back from Iraq, has just joined the Sea Haven police department. The job offer came from an old Army buddy who hoped to give Ceepak at least a summer's worth of rest and relaxation to help him forget the horrors of war. Instead, Ceepak will head up the murder investigation.

This book is enjoyable and funny. You do not have to think too hard, but it has enough twists that it is not completely predictable. It actually touches on some really serious issues but does this in a way that makes the issues peripheral to the story and not the main point of the story. Makes you feel like there are some good guys still out there.

At the beginning I was almost ready to see about returning this book. After the first part it got my attention. While it is somewhat contrived and some of the bad guys are a little too stupid I found it worth the time to listen to the end.
