I would have enjoyed this book more if the main characters were not portrayed as people who feel the need to do dramatic things such as throw dishes at each other. Nora Roberts seems to be confused about how to portray someone as a fully living human unless they get stupid and act in ways that I would not let my kids act in! She also seems to think they need to get violent with each other to prove their love. I am not buying it! It is a shame because I liked the basic story line if it could have had less drama.
Mrs Pollifax is very entertaining. Just the right blend of entertainment and suspense to keep you on your toes! Uplifting and simple human nature. Very refreshing when you need a break!
I am ok with this book. It filled a few hours of my marathon training. It is not amazing. Sex scenes etc typical Nora Roberts/JD Robb. Romantic, sort of, always ends up on the right side of the moral compass, but not amazing. A bit of writing to the formula. I will probably avoid Nora Roberts in the future.
Pains me to give Susan Erickson (narrator) a bad mark. She wasn't really that bad but the story and character development was so bad! This guy couldn't make up his mind to save his life! He was a huge wimp! 2nd guessing every single emotion or thought that he had AT GREAT LENGTH! This book could have been cut down by over 1/3 and it would not be missed. I listened to the end because it has such a good rating! Who gave it 4 stars? NOT ME!
I read this book in Grade 9 and loved it! Now about 40 years later listened to it. It is amazing how perceptive Robert Heinlein was given that this was written in ( I think) about 1960. Good story, fun book, reminds us of the good things that make us human.
I found this book to be enjoyable. I liked the lead character's personality. It is kind of a stupid book but still kept me entertained. Mind candy! No hard thoughts required!
An entertaining and romantic tale of the old days in Scotland. I enjoyed the story, not too sappy or predictable. A little bit steamy, but not stupidly so.
A nice light book when you need to believe in good things!
The lead character is dumb. She couldn't think her way out of a paper bag. The climax of the story made no sense. I have read some of this authors Falco mysteries and they are much better than this one.
I am working my way thru the Miss Silver series. Enjoying it for the most part. Miss Marple but with attitude and ambition! Expects to get paid for her detective work. A bit formulaic but still enjoyable. Some insipid characters, but I guess that reflects real life! And the occasional time when I want to say, Oh come on! It is not him, it is his brother, wife, son, daughter etc etc.
I call this type of book, mind candy, passes the time but you don't have to think too hard!
Stupid story, Nora Roberts in a lazy mood. Writing her formula without making the effort to make it believable. Rich guy, amazing morals, poorer girl, stridently independent, then some mysticism so that you don't have to worry too much about whether it even makes sense. You can do better Nora. I am not impressed with this effort.
A good story, but I had a bit of difficulty with the main character. Do people exist who are so lame and pathetic? Even when I was 19 I had more gumption than this 21 year old wimp! Still a good story, but had to get around wanting to slap some sense into the main character!
