As wild and reckless as the most incorrigible of her male cousins, young Amy Malory has reached marriageable age, and she has set her amorous sights on a most unsuitable mate: the handsome, straightlaced ship's captain who once nearly had her uncle James hung for piracy. An overpowering yearning for the young woman threatens to defeat the captain's defiant heart and stoke the fires of a perilous family feud.

It's been years since I read all of the Mallory books by Lindsey and listening to them is even more fun. Warren's story has a few twists and turns and you wonder whether or not he'll ever give in....but Amy is a wonderful character and she wins in the end.

This reader is great. She captures the personalities of all of the characters without making James and Anthony sound like old geezers.

Chief Inspector Armand Gamache and his team of investigators are called in to the scene of a suspicious death in a rural village south of Montreal. Jane Neal, a local fixture in the tiny hamlet of Three Pines just north of the U.S. border, has been found dead in the woods. The locals are certain it's nothing more than a tragic hunting accident, but Gamache smells something foul in these remote woods.

I've never read Louise Penny before but I will now. I loved the characters and the mystery remained unsolved by me until the end. Ralph Cosham is a wonderful narrator, as well. But--it's the wonderful word pictures that Penny creates that will make me buy more of her books.

Max Rotherbridge couldn't believe it. Along with the dukedom of Twyford, he - London's most notorious rogue - had inherited wardship of four devilishly attractive sisters! Including the irresistible Caroline Twinning. The eldest Twinning was everything he had ever wanted in a woman, but even Max couldn't seduce his own ward...or could he?

The story is funny and the narrator is perfect! Even though I've both read and listened to this book before, I still enjoy sitting back to enjoy this romp! There are a many 'laugh out loud' moments, too.

This is the story of a man who said that he would stop the motor of the world - and did. Is he a destroyer or a liberator? Why does he fight his hardest battle not against his enemies, but against the woman he loves? Tremendous in scope, breathtaking in its suspense, Atlas Shrugged is Ayn Rand's magnum opus and launched an ideology and a movement. With the publication of this work in 1957, Rand gained an instant following and became a phenomenon. Atlas Shrugged emerged as a premier moral apologia for capitalism, a defense that had an electrifying effect on millions of readers (and now listeners) who had never heard capitalism defended in other than technical terms.

    "Best Book I've Ever Read"
    Overall

I read this back in the late 60s and didn't really appreciate it because it seemed to be nearly science fiction. I just finished it and I have to say that I believe it to be the best book I've ever read. The fact that a book written in 1957 could've been taken from the news today shows me how well Ayn Rand knew her subject.

We are at the brink of losing the American that we've known and loved. When Rand speaks of Progressives and uses the terms that I hear coming out of the mouths of the media, Congress, and the White House, I have such a sense of dread and fear for this wonderful country.

There are those who don't agree and that's fine--that's what this country is all about but in the last several years, to voice opposition is to be called names. Again, the words spoken by these characters I hear everyday in the news and on TV.

The descriptions of Rand's characters are wonderful and I loved her four main characters. I didn't want to leave this book. I wanted to continue to live with these characters.

The narrator was surprisingly good and his voice seemed to fit each character.

Penniless Elinor is rather surprised at the carriage that meets her from the stage, and more so at the decayed grandeur of the house to which she's transported. Realising that there has been a case of mistaken identity she agrees to an audacious plan.

I could sit down and listen to this one again and I just finished it. I laughed -- not only at the humor of Georgette Heyer, but at the wonderful vocal characterization.

    You will enjoy this one.

  • No Choice But Seduction: A Malory Family Novel

After her mother died, vivacious Katey Tyler fled her dull Connecticut town, hoping to meet her relatives in England and find adventure and romance on a grand tour of Europe. She had no idea that her life-changing travels would have both in spades - as well as danger and intrigue - when she catches the eye of ship owner Boyd Anderson and inadvertently stumbles upon a high-stakes kidnapping.

mia says: "Not Lindsey's best, disappointing Mallory novel."
    "Another Winner"
    Overall

Johanna Lindsey's No Choice But Seduction wasn't just another Mallory story, although the Mallorys were certainly a major part of the story. This time it's Boyd's story and the object of his interest, Katey Tyler, has a story that affects not only Boyd's life, but the Mallorys as well.

There were more twists and turns in this novel and my only negative is that Katey seemed to hold her resentments a bit too long. Otherwise, I enjoyed both the novel and the narrator.

Set in Regency England, Stephanie Laurens' New York Times best-selling Bastion Club series evokes a bygone era where romantic entanglements rule the day - and inflamed desires rule the night. In A Fine Passion, Jack, Baron Warnefleet, narrowly avoids marriage when he flees London for the refuge of his estate. But there waits Lady Clarice Altwood, whose beauty is impossible to ignore.

I happen to love the books by Stephanie Laurens, especially the Bastion books. Her heroes are warriors and their mates are worthy of them.

Mr. Satterthwaite is at the Royal Opera House in Covent Garden enjoying a performance of Cavalleria rusticana followed by Pagliacci when he bumps into Mr. Quin during the intermission. He invites Mr. Quin to watch the second opera with him in his private box from where they spot an absolutely beautiful-looking girl in the audience before the lights go down. In the next intermission they spot the girl sitting with an earnest-looking young man and see that they are joined by a third young man...

I read all of the Agatha Christie books years ago and enjoyed them all, especially the ones with Mr. Harley Quin.

However, I guess I have to say that these are terribly dated because the answer is so obvious so early on.

    The Narrator is perfect, though.

Johanna Lindsey brings back her popular Malory family in this special holiday story, bringing her scandalous Malorys face-to-face with their distant gypsy kin. Fans will get a chance to see how it all started as their mysterious grandmother's gypsy kin comes to them for help, and another Malory falls head-over-heels for a member of the tribe.

Tara says: "Loved the reading with the accents and all!!"
    "Good and Bad"

The story was wonderful but the narrator was terrible. The Mallorys all sounded decrepid. Also, it seemed to me that the narrator didn't realize that Reggie was female. Her voice was far more male than Derek's was. Shudder.

If you can get past all of that, the story is wonderful.

Heartsick and desperate to leave her sorrows on England's shores, innocent Georgina Anderson seeks passage on the "gentleman's ship", Maiden Anne, disguised as a cabin boy. The captain, however, is no gentleman; he's the ex-pirate and irrepressible rake, James Malory.

It's been years since I've read Johanna Lindsey's books and enjoyed them. Last night I decided to listen for a short while before bed. At 4:30 the next morning, I knew I had to stop and get some sleep. After breakfast, I finished the book.

Johanna Lindsey is wonderful and I laughed out loud. The reader is wonderful and even made it easy to tell the difference between the 'players'. You will enjoy it!!
