This is within my top 5 favourite books I have listened to from Audible.

The narration was AWESOME! By far the best narration I have heard from Audible yet.

Yes, and I nearly did!

I think this was one of the most provoking and in-depth novels by Steinbeck.

Cannery Row had more thought put into the underlying message within the story. Most Steinbeck books are " what you see is what you get" They are all american stories, that can be taken literally as they are.

However this book had more substance.

Mac and the boys are a humorous and simple bunch of guys. Everything they did and said was funny, and you often figure if they are honestly that daft.
All the characters seems to be this way.

And then there is Doc, he's much like the others, but for some reason his presence and character bring a new level to the story. He's the leader that brings everyone together. He's the brains of the town. Which is not hard to be!

In the end of the book, there is a passage read out loud by Doc that sums up the whole of the story. Its the purpose and message of the whole book.

This is the element to Cannery Row that sets it apart from Steinbeck's other books.

Well worth the read. Not my favourite Steinbeck. Likely because I felt it varied from what I love most about Steinbeck. But still worthy.

This is beautifully written, and has fantastic character development.

I felt a range of emotion during this book, and was captivated right until the end.

An unfortunate ending, but the ending made the book complete.

Definite must read!

I cant say enough about this book. I have fallen in love with John Steinbeck. This is the 4th book I've read and they are all equally compelling, beautifully written and captivating. I had such a connection to these characters, I felt like I was there with the Joads. Grandpa was my favourite, his character was bright and funny.

The narration was the BEST I have heard on Audible. The only small complaint was the reading was a bit slow. I however have the function on my iphone to listen at 2 x the pace, and that was ideal for me. However in the regular pace, it was slow and drawn out.

Defiantly a great listen for anyone. 100% recommend this book, or any John Stienbeck for that matter!

I know Jane Austen is renowned for her work, however I just cant get into this book.

The story is hardly exciting and I found myself loosing interest as the book went on, waiting for something to happen - although I know it doesn't.

The characters were whiny, sarcastic, often humorous, but overall annoying.

I have yet to even finish, and I likely wont.

This book was an easy listen with a simple story.
I kept waiting for something to happen, however the book just continued without any climax.

I enjoyed the characters and following their lives. There is a bit of irony in the story that ties everything up at the end.

This book had such a great ending, not what you are expecting.

I can honestly admit, that I cried during the end of this book. I felt so involved in their lives and connected to Will and Lou.

I'm a big stickler about books that have good character development. Even the sub plot characters( Lou's parents) were defined and described in detail.

The only odd part of this book was the switch in narration with Nathan and Trina. Almost not necessary. Not sure why the author wanted to have their point of view in the book, I can understand if the book had started with 3 narrators, but it was only one chapter.

Wonderfully written, easy listen, a beautiful story, a defiant must!

The book lacked attention to detail. It was very casual and swept over the sub plot.
I would have liked a bit more history into the life of David. Good books make you feel and know the characters, I didn't feel connected to David on his search, or any other character for that matter.

Perhaps if the author did a bit more character building, I would have felt more emotional for his girlfriend at the end.

If you really got to know the characters, I think the book would have been that much better.

The book was suspenseful and I liked the scary elements.

This is a good book to read on the side, doesn't require much thought to follow and is simple with a good narration.

I found the first 2 parts of the book to be rather long and uneventful.
Part 3 ended up being the best part of the book, giving way to the irony of the characters and the events that unfolded.

I really enjoyed this book nearing the end. The author does a really good job building characters and making them real. By the end you feel connected to each of them, but not in a sad way. I felt happy for everyone and I was happy with the ending. It made the first 2 parts worth listening to.

I especially loved the cultural aspect in the novel. I enjoyed learning and hearing about Addis and Mission.

I would defiantly recommend this book.

I thought this book was good, the story was thought provoking and I liked the symbolism. However it was a bit long and uneventful at times.

The book end quickly and that was disspointing after such a long intro and middle. The last part of the book seems to lack any time perameters and detail. It fell apart for me.

Glad I read it, but Im not sure I could say I loved it.

I loved this book, it was rich with history and elements of the time period.

Although its a long listen, I found myself wanting more and more after the book ended. I wanted to listen to the rest of her life story.

I was a bit disappointed with Desiree and how she left her husband and went back to Paris. Considering this novel was based on true points in history of a real person, I cant really blame anyone for her character development.

The novel was dry at points and I found that it dwelled on certain moments in time, that were not relevant to the overall story.

Time period novels are my favourite and this is now among my top 3!
