  • Start: Punch Fear in the Face, Escape Average, and Do Work That Matters

There are only two paths in life: average and awesome. The average path is easy because all you have to do is nothing. The awesome path is more challenging, because things like fear only bother you when you do work that matters. The good news is Start gives listeners practical, actionable insights to be more awesome, more often.

If you could sum up Start in three words, what would they be?

    Motivational, Fun, Accessible

What does Jon Acuff bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Jon Acuff is an AMAZING speaker and this is one of the best audiobook narrations I've ever heard. I imagine the book is great in print as well, but the way Jon tells stories is very engaging. Nothing about his speaking voice is dull.

    Any additional comments?

I've read dozens of self-development books and this one is definitely at the top of the list (my other fav's would be How to Win Friends and Influence Others and Unstuff Your Life). There was not a single dull moment in this book, and even though it is directed at any age group, I feel like it is especially accessible and inspiring for younger people (20s, 30s). I wish I had read this book years ago! (if it had existed... which it didn't)

There's an old saying: if you eat a live frog first thing each morning, you'll have the satisfaction of knowing that it's probably the worst thing you'll do all day. Using "eat that frog" as a metaphor for tackling the most challenging task of your day, the one you are most likely to procrastinate on, but also the one that might have the greatest positive impact on your life, Eat That Frog! shows you how to zero in on these critical tasks and organize your day.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Eat That Frog! is a super quick read that is packed with good tips, and has a very helpful summary at the end. I can imagine reading this book over and over again when I find myself in a productive slump.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Eat That Frog!?

One of my favorite quotes from Eat That Frog was "Only 2% of people are self-motivated. Those people are leaders." The whole book was very inspiring to get off my ass and be self motivated!

What insight do you think you’ll apply from Eat That Frog!?

Everything! Brian Tracy has lots of little anecdotes and visual imagery that will help me remember all his advice on being most productive. Just the title itself is helpful - start each day with the most important task that will make the biggest difference in your life - either professionally or personally.

If you could sum up Unstuff Your Life in three words, what would they be?

    Motivating, Common Sense, Results

What other book might you compare Unstuff Your Life to and why?

"How to Win Friends & Influence People." Both books rely on SIMPLE COMMON SENSE approaches to ordinary problems that do (but shouldn't) baffle most people (interacting with other human beings and not becoming overwhelmed by your belongings / organizing them, respectively). There is nothing incredible or revolutionary about this book. It is just a thoughtful, concise summation of things that SHOULD be common sense.

    Any additional comments?

This book is GREAT motivation to get over your attachments to "stuff" and keep what is only practical / necessary in your life. This should be required reading for any high school / college grad. I feel like it's helping me become an adult and organize my life so I can actually be productive, instead of wasting hours and hours and hours of time "cleaning." Why didn't I read this ten years ago???
