Born to Run - Scott Jurek was highlighted in Born to Run. Both books talk about the psychology, dedication and drive that produce ultramarathoners, as well as the joys and struggles that come along with the sport.
This book was very inspiring. As a runner, I am always striving to better myself and Scott's story was one of the extreme. I admire his dedication, tenacity and attempts to empower himself through education about all aspects of running and his physical and mental self. I was a little saddened to read about his constant search for happiness and enlightenment through running and perfectionism. A sport as lonely and intrinsic as ultrarunning invariably leads a runner to look into themselves for "that something missing." Only later in life, when Scott started looking outside himself and giving more of himself to others, did he start to find that balance and inner peace. I also really appreciated the recipes and will be buying a print copy simply so I don't have to write them all down as the reader dictates them!
