At the age of 22, Jennifer Worth left her comfortable home to move into a convent and become a midwife in postwar London’s East End slums. The colorful characters she met while delivering babies all over London - from the plucky, warm-hearted nuns with whom she lived to the woman with 24 children who couldn't speak English to the prostitutes and dockers of the city’s seedier side - illuminate a fascinating time in history.

Which character – as performed by Nicola Barber – was your favorite?

I enjoyed Chummy. She is like "a goose in a new world"! The environment of Poplar and other neighborhoods is unlike any place she has been, and she adapts very easily and is loved by all.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

    yes yes yes!

Meredith and Nina Whitson are as different as sisters can be. One stayed at home to raise her children and manage the family apple orchard: the other followed a dream and traveled the world to become a famous photojournalist. But when their beloved father fails ill, Meredith and Nina find themselves together again, standing alongside their cold, disapproving mother, Anya, who even now, offers no comfort to her daughters

So this year we’ve asked some of your favorite Audible narrators—Audie Award winners Katherine Kellgren, Oliver Wyman, and Jonathan Davis—to bring to life this timeless tale, plus two more of O. Henry’s gems: "The Cop and the Anthem" and "The Last Leaf", in this holiday collection.

Beverly Lewis, one of the top-selling inspirational writers in the world, has received widespread praise and several Silver Angel Awards for her moving, inspirational works. The Covenant, set in rural Pennsylvania, paints a detailed portrait of Amish traditions. As two sisters reach courting age, their thoughts reflect the promises life holds out to them, and the decisions that will govern their paths. The mixture of faith and heritage in this novel is as fascinating as it is soul-stirring.

It's easy to feel at home in Mitford. In these high, green hills, the air is pure, the village is charming, and the people are generally lovable. Yet Father Tim, the bachelor rector, wants something more. Enter a dog the size of a sofa who moves in and won't go away. Add an attractive neighbor who begins wearing a path through the hedge. Now, stir in a lovable but unloved boy, a mystifying jewel theft, and a secret that's 60 years old.

Shirley says: "You wish you lived there and knew these people"
"I want to move to Mitford!"
    Overall

I am a long time fan of Jan Karon's Mitford series and the audio books are just as delightful as the written books! John McDonough is the perfect "voice" for these books!
