From the internationally best-selling author of The History of Love comes this stunning novel. Great House follows the multiple owners of one writing desk and how the desk shapes their lives. A young novelist inherited the desk from a poet taken by Pinochet’s police. Then the desk is stolen from her by the poet’s supposed daughter. In its drawers, another man discovers a long-kept secret about his wife....

What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?

The synopsis of this story isn't accurate. The stories are supposed to revolve around a desk that exerts a power over those who possess it or have given it away. The first story did but I listened for several chapters on the next one and nowhere was there a mention of the desk. The same goes for the next story. I stopped listening to the second and third stories because they made no sense and weren't interesting. I couldn't bring myself to listen to anymore. The writer should have made the connetion to the desk at the beginning of each story after the first.

What do you think your next listen will be?

    The Hunger Games

What about the narrators???s performance did you like?

The three narrator's I listened too did a great job with their characters.

What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

    Disappointment

    Any additional comments?

I'm still shaking my head after listening to most of the second story. It nonsensible.

Would you consider the audio edition of The Forgotten Garden to be better than the print version?

Yes, because the narrator does such a wonderful job!

What other book might you compare The Forgotten Garden to and why?

The Thirteenth Tale because of the mystery and time period in time.

Have you listened to any of Caroline Lee’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

    No.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

No, I enjoyed listening to a few hours a day and enjoyed every minute.

Pi Patel has been raised in a zoo in India. When his father decides to move the family to Canada and sell the animals to American zoos, everyone boards a Japanese cargo ship. The ship sinks, and 16-year-old Pi finds himself alone on a lifeboat with a hyena, an orangutan, a zebra with a broken leg, and a 450-pound Bengal tiger. Soon it's just Pi, the tiger, and the vast Pacific Ocean - for 227 days. Pi's fear, knowledge, and cunning keep him alive until they reach the coast of Mexico, where the tiger disappears into the jungle.

What disappointed you about Life of Pi?

The story is all over the place and the details of animal cruelty was more than I wanted to hear.

Would you ever listen to anything by Yann Martel again?

    No.

What does Jeff Woodman bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Jeff's performance was good and gives the story life and reality.

What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

Disappointment above all things. The reviews I read still baffle me. I definitely didn't get the same thing from the book that others did.

    Any additional comments?

Just because a movie becomes a major motion picture does not make it a good story.
