Gritty, and Revealing
Detailed timelines describing the NFL's denial into the concussion dilemma.
Good performance, nice voice.
What happened to Mike Webster, and Junior Seau was deplorable.
Like many NFL fans I can get a bit upset a questionable "roughing calls". However, after reading this book I understand why they are doing this. Must read for an NFL fan.
Not a great listen, but fun if you are a fan of GOT, A Song of Ice and Fire.
Nothing really. The book is very short and tackles what it set out to do.
When he barked like Winter the Dire Wolf. Just kidding that doesn't happen.
This book is about symbolism, back story and metaphors in GOT, A Song of Ice and Fire. If that's what you're looking for then this is the book for you. If you are only watching the TV show be warned because it does contain spoilers from newer books. At only 3 hours long I paid for the book, and did not use a credit.
Masterful, detailed, sad
I've never read anything this detailed before. At 57 hours it is a masterpiece of history.
Yes, I listened to Titan, a biography about John. D. Rockefeller. Grover Gardner has a fantastic voice, and again does a great job with this book.
In school we were taught about the horrors of the 3rd Reich. However learning of these horrors through the written letters, and reports of SS, and Gestapo officers is very sad. Not just because of the crimes, but that human beings could treat other human beings so, in-inhumanely.
Any book this long has it's slow points. In section 3 or 4 the book really slows down. This is dedicated entirely to Germany acquiring Austria, and Czechoslovakia. This was the only issue I had with the book. I didn't think 8 hours needed to be spent on such a subject. Learning about Hitler's upbringing, background, soaring victories, and finally embarrassing defeats were a joy to listen to.
The narrator was exceptional. He was able to speak with a traditional African dialect. This great enhanced the listened pleasure of this book.
Since this is Nelson Mandela's auto-biography he is the main character. Even in his darkest hours, and most trying times he never lost his sense of hope, never lost the sight of his goal for a modern republic in his country and he never lost his unique sense of humor.
No, this was my first one.
At the end of the book, is the real life audio of Nelson Mandela being sworn in as president. This was very emotional to hear, after all he went through for freedom.
From beginning to end this book is captivating. From growing up in the poor, to moving to the city, to jail, and finally as president, LWTF give a very detailed account of his life. The book ends with him being sworn in as president. I wish it could have gone a bit further into his actual work as president.
Average, to below average. For its time I'm sure it was a great short story. By modern standards it falls short.
The comparison of going farther down river, symbolized the greed for wealth, and the darkness in a mans heart.
Mr. Branagh was exceptional. I am a fan of his, and would like to find more audio books he has narrated.
When the boat was attacked in the dark by natives.
For a quick listen this book was ok. I wish I would have paid for this title, and not used a credit. It falls a bit short, and ends very dull.
At 8 hours the flow was perfect. Great insight into Nintendo's early, middle and latter years. I have been a Nintendo fan boy since I was 6-7, I'm 30 now and have a Wii, Wii U, DS, you name it. It didn't bog down with boring negotiations, the story was about the development of different systems and games.
The behind the scenes history of Nintendo. Finding out what old urban-legends were real, and which were exaggerated.
Reminiscing about playing Super Mario Bros, or any of the other great games mentioned in the book.
If you are a Nintendo fan, this book is a must listen. I can not say enough good things about it.
Yes, but only to be read on a larger scale than just meth.
Sorta falls off without much closure.
50% of the book was very good. The other 50% was about big industry ruining middle America, and not even about meth. It's worth listening to but, I would not rush to listen to it.
If you are looking for an in depth study of meth use in America, this is not for you. However this is a very good study about the decline of middle class Americans in the Mid-west.
The sequential steps through out JDR life. Growing up poor, to becoming the worlds wealthiest man. The book does not sugar coat JDR, not does it portray him as history's greatest villain either. He was a CEO of his time and age.
JDR. He was much more likable than I expected him to be.
Well read, nothing to complain about
No. Most biography I read don't exhibit in me a strong emotional reaction. However learning about US industry after the Civil War through WWI was very interesting
Growing up in a very liberal household names like Rockefeller, Vanderbilt, Morgan, Carnegie, ect were names of evil, money hunger villains. I was surprised to learn how generous with his wealth Rockefeller was.
Intelligent, Technical, Sad
The USSR wanted him to build a death ray and Tesla said no.
His portrayals of Edison, and JP Morgan are very good.
How such a brilliant man, died alone, in massive debt, and only companions being his pigeons.
This book is very good in detailing Tesla's life. However, the book gets very technical at times and can be difficult to follow. How Tesla was influenced by and how he influenced some of the greatest people of his time (JP Morgan, Thomas Edison, ect) is worth reading.
This book is very in depth regarding Theodore Roosevelt's parents, siblings and lineage. I goes into great detail about his mother, and father. I chronicle his life until about age 25 -30. It does not go very deep into his presidency, San Juan Hill. It ends with him returning from the western badlands, and beginning his political career.
It was not as interesting as the book on John Adams
Learning about his time in the west was interesting
