I could not finish this book. I quit on the eighth chapter. The author spent the entire first seven chapters writing about the sexual tension between the two main characters. Enough already...let's move on and develop the storyline!
This was my first Laura Landon book. I enjoyed the story thoroughly though there were parts that were a bit tedious, repeating the characters' insecurities. But overall, it was an enjoyable book for an easy listen. The narrator did not have many different voices, but I thought she did a fine job. Her accent and tone were soothing, especially with the heroine's character. I appreciated the book not being all about the sex but dealt with developing the relationship. I would listen to her again as well as read another Landon book.
I tried reading the actual book a few summers ago and then downloaded it. From the reviews, I thought maybe I just didn't give it enough time to get into it, but the second time around was just as boring. It did not move quick enough for me. The main characters seemed to be lost in their thoughts too long and too much for my enjoyment.
The humor found in the characters and the narrator's way of communicating that humor was so endearing. She made the characters seem so real. The minor characters were also enjoyable and brought extra humor and romance! I laughed out loud so many times.
Ms. Field's did an amazing job with her many accents, speaking with an English accent and then geniune Texas drawls. There is definitely a difference in a southern accent and a Texas drawl and Ms. Field's nailed it! Every character came to life; you could almost visualize each one.
Definitely worth a credit. There is not an overly use of descriptive sexual encounters which gets really old after awhile (I don't mind the innuendos).
This has definitely been one of the better books that I have listened to!
Barbara Rosenblat is absolutely fabulous!
This was my second Witemeyer book and I really enjoyed it. The hero, Levi, is such a humble, sweet man and my heart broke with the way he was treated at times and the struggles he faced. Eden's character got on my nerves at times with her self-righteousness, and it took a non-Christian girl to show her how snooty she had been. At times, there were too many musings with the characters. The narrator was enjoyable and easy to listen to, though she had the female characters speak in a Southern accent instead of a Texas drawl. Being from Texas myself, I had to get over that minor detail. Overall, the story was an enjoyable listen.
No, not necessarily
I started the first two chapters three times to make sense of all the characters introduced. After that, the story did flow and was enjoyable. The narrator did an excellent job on all the characters except the heroine. Chloe was a 23 year old with a forty-year old voice. I did enjoy the sarcasm of the hero. However, I probably won't buy another Anne Stuart novel because of the over-use of the "F" word. Seems to cheapen the relationship between the two main characters.
I have to agree with Lisa from Washington; this book left me totally disappointed. Just when I thought the heroine came to her senses and wanted a better life for herself, she runs back becoming somewhat of a depressing martyr. I don't mind reading books about the sadness/problems in life, but this book went from one problem to another (maybe it was the detailed "on-an-on" narrative about it that I didn't enjoy) -- just couldn't handle all the depressing moments. With so many other enjoyable reads available, I decided to chunk this without even finishing it. (Enjoyed the author though.)
Lori Copeland is one of my favorite inspirational authors; I enjoy the humor she uses to develop the storyline and characters. Though this is not one of her best writings, it would have still been enjoyable IF the narrator had not ruined it. Riddett's reading was choppy and stiff, making the characters seem old and cranky. I would skip the audible book, buy a hard copy to enjoy instead. (I didn't even finish it since I just couldn't take it anymore!)
