Maybe, the narration was good, the writing wood but story...strange. I don't knw what I really expected but it wasn't this.
Uhm, maybe to my weird friends.
Good, he kept in character well letting the listener transition between characters well.
Not really. Wouldn't interest me.
I bought this book along with ninteen others during Audibles $5 sale. I'm glad I didn't pay full price for this particular one. Others I bought during the sale have been great and a real bargin. It all equals out I guess.
If you want to experience personal growth and fortitude, don't miss listening to this powerful story told expertly by Bryce Courtenay and brought to life by Humphrey Bower. This combination of talents makes you drive around the block and more.
Sadly the trilogy comes to an end. When I got the Potato Factory in one of Audible's great sale offers I never dreamed I would hooked on a historical fiction story (not my usual genre). But I couldn't wait for each of the sequels. I was disappointed a little with Tommo and Hawk, but Solomon's Song made me laugh and cry and cry agian. Had I been reading instead of listening it would have hard through the tears but worth every tissue. Humphrey Bower is perfect once again delivering a stellar preformance of all the different characters.
My advice - don't miss the Trilogy!
Books don't usually bring me to tears but this was a 3 tissue book. Also a surprising book. I don't know what I exprcted but I was very pleasantly surprised. The situation presented here is totally possible so hang on for a great experience.
I read the reviews from other listeners after I purchased this book. Boy am I glad! I thouroughly enjoyed this book and can't wait until the sequel is available. I enjoyed the detailed descriptions. Descriptions that make you smell the open latrines, filthly bodies and open cooking fires. Please don't let the length and details scare you away from this wonderful experience. You will feel with these characters and you won't want it to end.
I am a died in the wool James Patterson fan and have read every book he has published but I have to say the last few have been disappointments. I don't eagerly await the next book as I did years ago. Wait for this one to go on sale.
For all the John Corey fans waiting for the next phase after the Lions Game, the wait is over and you won't be disappointed. Scott Brick, "the voice" of John Corey is once again stellar in his timing and diverse in delivering all the cast of characters.
I don't read many books in this genre and probably wouldn't have this one if it hadn't been on sale. Boy am I glad it was on sale! This was a captivating story read be a great proformer.
Left me crying.
How involved Irving got the reader with this cast of characters.
Oh so many but I would have to pick Paul Owen Meany.
I think John would be my dinner pick because I would like to know more about his emotional relationship with Owen, and I think we could talk for hours about his life in New England and Canada.
You know, when you're reading a book and you know what's going to happen and you know it's going to hurt but you just can't quite reading and can't seem to turn the pages fast enough...well that is exactly what happens with a Prayer for Owen Meany. John Irving's writing and Joe Barrett's narration were great. This was an unexpected pleasure!
Maybe, sometimes when I'm working my focas shifts a little and I miss some of what I'm listening to but I usually go back and pick it up. Some of the books I've listened to a second time are more enjoyable because I pick up on those lost segments.
I wanted more details. The details throughout the book were excellent but I found the ending lacking.
Hard to pick just one,but I think Paul was my favorite.
Yes and I almost made it.
I received my Kindle Fire for Christmas and discovered Audible almost immediately. I don't think I will ever read a book again. It is so wonderful to be able to listen to a great book while doing something else and not having to limit reading to the so prescious leasure time we have. Thanks Audible, you are my expensive habit.
