It's summer in Memphis. The sweat is sticking to Rudy Baylor's shirt and creditors are nipping at his heels. Once he had aspirations of breezing through law school and punching his ticket to the good life. Now he doesn't have a joy or a prayer...except for one: an insurance dispute that leaves a family devastated and opens the door for a lawsuit, if Rudy can find a way to file it.

Have you listened to any of Frank Muller’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

I've listened to almost all of Frank Muller's other performances. I specifically looked up some old books that he did just for the joy of hearing his voice again. He was one of the greats and his story makes me sad. Enjoy a great book read by the GREAT Frank Muller.

At Cold Mountain Penitentiary, the convicted killers on E Block await their turn to walk the Green Mile and keep a date with the electric chair. Paul Edgecombe has seen his share of oddities in his years working as a guard on the Mile, but he's never met anyone like John Coffey.

Frank Muller was made to read Stephen King novels. He is able to project the right amount of creepy into the story. I imagine that is why Stephen King loved him so much. This story is great, I love how you can tell it was written in short installments. There are a lot of mini climaxes. I saw the movie but still enjoyed the book even more.

I saw more of these "John Corey" books coming out and wanted to jump on the train, but started here from the beginning. I'm glad I did. The story is great, the narration is great, and I'm excited to read more about John Corey. I don't think he'll take the place of Harry Bosch as my favorite bad "a" detective, but I think he'll be a good second place. He's tough, ballsy, and just grumpy enough to upset all the right people, and some of the wrong ones. A trait I feel a good detective would really have. If you like good detective novels with some action thrown in, then you'll like this book.

I was just blown away by how bad the performance is in this book. It is a wonderful story, but I almost didn't get through it because of how bad the narration was. For some crazy reason Mr. Jean decided that he was going to make the protagonist sound like Keanu Reeves in "Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure." I just kept reminding myself he doesn't narrate the second book.
Putting the narration aside, this book is great, the story is great, the magic system is creative and interesting. I haven't read something so innovative in fantasy since Brandon Sanderson's last book. So suck it up and get through it, because it's all down hill from here.
