There are some odd things about Nate’s new apartment. Of course, he has other things on his mind. He hates his job. He has no money in the bank. No girlfriend. No plans for the future. So while his new home isn’t perfect, it’s livable. The rent is low, the property managers are friendly, and the odd little mysteries don’t nag at him too much. At least, not until he meets Mandy, his neighbor across the hall, and notices something unusual about her apartment. And Xela’s apartment. And Tim’s. And Veek’s.

Dubbed the American Tolkien by Time magazine, George R. R. Martin has earned international acclaim for his monumental cycle of epic fantasy. Now the number-one New York Times best-selling author delivers the fifth book in his spellbinding landmark series - as both familiar faces and surprising new forces vie for a foothold in a fragmented empire.

This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?

no one who has heard the first three - all the voices changed - it's extremely distracting and unenjoyable.

What do you think your next listen will be?

i think i will opt to read a dance for dragons..

How did the narrator detract from the book?

by constantly changing the voices from the 1st-3rd books of the series to the last 2 books. This is truly the worst of all.

You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?

I understand that the narrator is elderly and he did do a great job on the 1-3 books - but they should have given the task to someone who could be somewhat consistent for these last 2 books. even the pronunciation of the names changed. terriblydistracting.

Cloudland is a stunning literary thriller set in rural Vermont from the much-praised author of Nightswimmer and Clara's Heart. Once a major reporter for a national newspaper, Catherine Winslow has retreated to the Upper Valley of Vermont to write a household hints column. While out walking during an early spring thaw, Catherine discovers the body of a woman leaning against an apple tree near her house. From the corpse’s pink parka, Winslow recognizes her as the latest victim of a serial killer.

What did you like best about Cloudland? What did you like least?

the writing is good but the pc aspect is annoying

Would you recommend Cloudland to your friends? Why or why not?

no because I am angry that the "gay" aspect is once again brought unecessarily into a story.

    Which scene was your favorite?

    the first chapter

Was Cloudland worth the listening time?

don't really have an answer for that.. for me NO.

    Any additional comments?

why does Hollywood and now, writers, feel that it is their duty to consistently bring the gay agenda into stories where it really has no bearing. It is as if there is a mission to shove this down everyone's throats at any expense, even good writing. Where it matters and is actually part of the story - fine. But when peppered in just to push an agenda i find it distracting and a total turn off.

Few books have captivated the imagination and won the devotion and praise of readers and critics everywhere as has George R. R. Martin’s monumental epic cycle of high fantasy that began with A Game of Thrones. Now, in A Feast for Crows, Martin delivers the long-awaited fourth book of his landmark series, as a kingdom torn asunder finds itself at last on the brink of peace . . . only to be launched on an even more terrifying course of destruction.

Is there anything you would change about this book?

ok - Arya's voice changed from a young, high born girl to a 70-yr old chain-smoking hag. Vares, Baylish, Sam - all changed voices and not for the better. The whole performance is very annoying and distracting. Dotrice is such an excellent narrator but the shift in voices depletes the entire performance.what could have happened? and why?

What didn’t you like about Roy Dotrice’s performance?

he changed too many voices from the 1st 3 books!

The Appalachian Trail trail stretches from Georgia to Maine and covers some of the most breathtaking terrain in America - majestic mountains, silent forests, sparking lakes. If you’re going to take a hike, it’s probably the place to go. And Bill Bryson is surely the most entertaing guide you’ll find. He introduces us to the history and ecology of the trail and to some of the other hardy (or just foolhardy) folks he meets along the way - and a couple of bears. Already a classic, A Walk in the Woods will make you long for the great outdoors (or at least a comfortable chair to sit and read in).

We hear the print book’s not bad, either. In pitch-perfect voices, Kathryn Stockett creates three extraordinary women whose determination to start a movement of their own forever changes a town, and the way women - mothers, daughters, caregivers, friends - view one another.

It is Nick and Amy Dunne's fifth wedding anniversary. Presents are being wrapped and reservations are being made when Nick's clever and beautiful wife disappears from their rented McMansion on the Mississippi River. Husband-of-the-Year Nick isn't doing himself any favors with cringe-worthy daydreams. Under mounting pressure from the police and the media - as well as Amy's fiercely doting parents - the town golden boy parades an endless series of lies, deceits, and inappropriate behavior. Nick is oddly evasive, and he's definitely bitter - but is he really a killer?
