  • Notorious Nineteen: A Stephanie Plum Novel

    • UNABRIDGED (6 hrs and 7 mins)
    • By Janet Evanovich
    • Narrated By Lorelei King
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

After a slow summer of chasing low-level skips for her cousin Vinnie's bail bonds agency, Stephanie Plum finally lands an assignment that could put her checkbook back in the black. Geoffrey Cubbin, facing trial for embezzling millions from Trenton's premier assisted-living facility, has mysteriously vanished from the hospital after an emergency appendectomy. Now it's on Stephanie to track down the con man. Unfortunately, Cubbin has disappeared without a trace, a witness, or his money-hungry wife. Rumors are stirring that he must have had help with the daring escape...or that maybe he never made it out of his room alive.

    G. House Sr. says: "Tedious Formulaic with same-old same-old"
"Loved the book, not crazy about the reader"
Would you consider the audio edition of Notorious Nineteen to be better than the print version?

No, because I found the reader a little silly when she tried to do the men's voices, as well as Stephanie's. She didn't sound at all like she was from New Jersey, which would have been fine, but coupled wit the fact that she tried so hard to sound like all of the men (from NJ or not) was a distraction for me & took away from the book

What other book might you compare Notorious Nineteen to and why?

It is right up there with the other 18 Stephanie Plum novels. Love them

Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Lorelei King?

    Maybe Janet Evanovich or me!

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

    It made me laugh

    Any additional comments?

Love all of Janet Evanovich's books-not just the Plum novels. She is a great writer

  • Does the Noise in My Head Bother You?: A Rock 'n' Roll Memoir

    • UNABRIDGED (13 hrs and 1 min)
    • By Steven Tyler
    • Narrated By Jeremy Davidson

The son of a classical pianist straight out of the Bronx of old Archie comics, Steven Tyler was born to be a rock star. Weaned on Cole Porter, Nat King Cole, Mick and his beloved Janis Joplin, Tyler began tearing up the streets and the stage as a teenager before finally meeting his "mutant twin" and legendary partner, Joe Perry. In this addictively listenable memoir, Tyler unabashedly recounts the meteoric rise, fall, and rise of Aerosmith over the last three decades and riffs on the music that gives it all meaning.

Damian says: "Reads true to the man and true to music"
"This was so cliche & outdated that it was PAINFUL"
This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?

I think this book might be good if you had a time machine and/or bad taste

Has Does the Noise in My Head Bother You? turned you off from other books in this genre?

No, actually I LOVE LOVE LOVE rock & roll books. This, however, was cheesy and such regurgitation that I had to PLOW through it as if it was a job! There was nothing new here, either to a seasoned, avid rock reader like me, or to a neophyte, as evidenced by a friend who listened to some of it. By the way, I loved Walk This Way, the Aerosmith autobiigraphy, so it is not the band, or the topic. This was old old old

Would you be willing to try another one of Jeremy Davidson’s performances?

No---His voice was even more annoying than the content

If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from Does the Noise in My Head Bother You??

It was so awful, but I would start with cutting out 90% of Steven Tyler's sexual prowess and bragging. BORING.
