When their village is attacked by trollocs, monsters thought to be only legends, three young men, Rand, Matt, and Perrin, flee in the company of the Lady Moiraine, a sinister visitor of unsuspected powers. Thus begins an epic adventure set in a world of wonders and horror, where what was, what will be, and what is, may yet fall under the Shadow.

If you could sum up The Eye of the World in three words, what would they be?

    Exciting, Addicting, Mediocre

Would you be willing to try another book from Robert Jordan? Why or why not?

I have read the whole series.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes. I found myself walking around the house doing my chores, commuting to work, even lying in bed at night listening to this story.

    Any additional comments?

The Eye of the World is a great story. It just isn't very well written. Alas, the poor writing quality is only more apparent with the great readers that narrate this audio version. It may not be apparent in this first book, but by the 8th part of The Wheel of Time, the characters (especially the women) have become caricatures of themselves. Fortunately, I think that Brandon Sanderson's continuing books are better written than the originals.

Nevertheless, I am a bit of a hypocrite, because despite my eye-rolling at the writing quality, I have listened to the whole series and look forward to the last volumes. The scope of these stories is astonishing, the world building is fantastic, and that is what you really end up coming back for.

Finally, let me compliment the quality of the narration once more. Michael Kramer is such a good reader, Kate Reading isn't bad, but she is unlucky in that she is a decent act following Kramer's fantastic one. In fact, listening to other actors will just sound sadly lacking after these two champions.
