The narrator of this audio is first rate..as a matter of fact, I'd choose other books simply to listen to him!

If you can put up with the rambling opening segment and a narrator with pebbles in his mouth this book is just what you are looking for. Be my guest, but if you want something well-written and well-read, move on to a different title.

I wasn't quite sure what to make of this book when I chose it, but decided to give it a try and was rewarded for doing so. The author tells a fascinating story interweaving history, geography, genetics, and personal relationships. The resulting whole cloth is as complex and interesting a pattern as I've "read" in along time. The reader is superb, giving the book a voice that matches it prose perfectly.

"The Secret Life of Bees" is a beatifully written and beautifully read story of a remarkable 14 year old and the even more remarkable women who take her in. It is a story of compassion and love conquering cruelty and even hatred. Anyone who loved "To Kill a Mockingbird" will revel in this book. It's simply great.
