    Would you try another book from Elizabeth Gaskell and/or Prunella Scales?

    Prunella Scales is a fabulous narrator.


    How would you have changed the story to make it more enjoyable?

    It was a classic that had a very slow pace with little action. I enjoyed the characters, but this is not my cup of tea.


    Which character ??? as performed by Prunella Scales ??? was your favorite?

    Miss Smith, the narrator, was perfect, and, of course, Miss Mattie. I liked the maid, too, but she spoke so quickly that I could not understand all of what she said.

    Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

    A friend suggested Anna Pigeon mysteries and I have listened to several of them. I enjoy the settings of the National Parks and would recommend them to others who do.


    Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?

    I rarely figure out whodunit before Anna does. It keeps me thinking just like Anna throughout the book.


    Which scene was your favorite?

    I enjoyed Barr's description of the lion cubs.


    Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

    No -- I like to take my time.


    Any additional comments?

    This book was set in my home state of Texas, and that made it more enjoyable.

    Would you listen to The Beekeeper's Apprentice again? Why?

    I enjoyed this creation of a younger but equally talented apprentice to Sherlock Holmes.


    Who was your favorite character and why?

    Mary Russell is quite a unique character in that she is a young woman who can hold her own with the master detective.


    What about Jenny Sterlin???s performance did you like?

    I love the voice she gave to Russell.


    Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

    The author created several suspenseful situations that kept me riveted.


    Any additional comments?

    I did not care for the way Sterling read Holmes's voice, but I truly enjoyed the story. I have listened to one other Mary Russell book and will listen to more in the series.

    What was one of the most memorable moments of The Professor and the Madman?

    The most shocking moment was when Dr. Minor operated on himself. I audibly gasped.

    All characters interpreted by the author/narrator were memorable.


    What???s the most interesting tidbit you???ve picked up from this book?

    The whole story of the birth of the OED and the unlikely relationship of Drs. Murray and Minor is fascinating.

    I also enjoyed the interview with the author/narrator and the editor of the OED.
