The year is 1984 and the city is Tokyo.

A young woman named Aomame follows a taxi driver's enigmatic suggestion and begins to notice puzzling discrepancies in the world around her. She has entered, she realizes, a parallel existence, which she calls 1Q84 - "Q" is for "question mark". A world that bears a question....

If you could sum up 1Q84 in three words, what would they be?

    Surreal. Interesting. Long.

What other book might you compare 1Q84 to and why?

I've never read any other book like this.

What does the narrators bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

The narrator spoke Wayyyyy too slowly. I wanted to yell,

If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

There's really only one reality...but what is it?

    Any additional comments?

I would recommend this book to someone who has patience and is not looking for a fast-paced or suspense -filled story. It was very long but I finished it without regret.

A Story of God and All of Us is a sweeping narrative that dramatizes some of the most important events and characters in the Bible. The book is narrated like a fine novel, dramatizing the sweep of biblical events, making the men and women of scripture come alive in vivid detail and dialogue. All are historically and theologically accurate. A 10-hour miniseries on the History Channel will be based on the story, and the script has been reviewed by a number of Christian church leaders and seminarians for authenticity.

Great synopsis of the various bible stories. It was enjoyable, light listening. This would be a great listen in the car with kids since the stories are relatively short. I agree with some of the other reviews that it's fun to hear the story and then go back to the Bible and read it. You always glean something new when reading the Bible.

Reacher's anonymity in Florida is shattered by an investigator who's come looking for him. But hours after his arrival, the stranger is murdered. Retracing the PI's trail back to New York, Reacher's compelled to find out who was looking for him and why. He never expected the reasons to be so personal - and twisted.

    Story

I'll admit I'm sensitive to violence, but each of the three Jack Reacher books I've read all include torture and humiliation. Although the story itself was decent, a typical 'catch em in the nick of time' murder mystery, the violent overtone ruined the book for ME. I've only read the first three books, but they were pretty much all the same so I'm done with the Jack Reacher series.

  • Light My Fire: Aisling Grey, Guardian, Book 3

Katie MacAlister, best-selling author of paranormal romantic comedies, ignites a devilishly lusty story with Light My Fire. The gorgeous Aisling Grey, introduced in You Slay Me, juggles being a demon lord, a Guardian, and a wyvern's mate all at once - though not always successfully. Recently relocated to London, Aisling and her doggie demon sidekick, Jim, are eager for a fresh start. Drake the hunky dragon, however, has other plans for her.

    Story

Typical vampiresque-love story but the narrator makes this series fun, fun, fun. Her voices enhance the characters personalities and make the book worth listening to. I love the characters, the sarcasm and wit, Aisling's fierce independence, the relationship between Aisling and Jim (her guardian in dog form), and her love-hate relationship with Drake. If you like easy listening with entertaining narration, this is a good one.

    Story

The movie is out right now and I read reviews that said the book was far better, so I grabbed the title for myself. The book is excruciatingly slow and dragged out.

I gave the story 3 stars because the book has potential. I did manage to finish the book and thought the concept was intriguing but I believe that a better narrator could have made this a fun and exciting story by bringing some personality to the characters.

This astonishing novel was chosen as a Best Book of the Year by the Los Angeles Times, Entertainment Weekly, Publisher's Weekly and Newsweek. Contained within is the story of Edgar Mint, the half-Apache, mostly orphaned child who overcomes a serious childhood injury to embark on a life of tragedies, including a boarding school for Native Americans and a dysfunctional Mormon foster family.

Why we think it’s a great listen: Seabiscuit was a runaway success, and Hillenbrand’s done it again with another true-life account about beating unbelievable odds. On a May afternoon in 1943, an Army Air Forces bomber crashed into the Pacific Ocean and disappeared, leaving only a spray of debris and a slick of oil, gasoline, and blood. Then, on the ocean surface, a face appeared.....

I'm impressed when a long book can keep my attention . I couldn't put this book down and was sorry when it ended.

This was my favorite Courtenay book, by far. Other long books that kept my interest like this was 'Pillars of the Earth' and 'Outlander' and '1Q84'.

    I highly recommend this book.
