The narrator and the story were well matched. Many surprises some not to my liking but consistent within the story line. I don't want to spoil the story so I give no details but I listened non stop. Now I will listen again.
Cody is my favorite. but.......
I like his change in tone for various characters. strong females don't sound like guys in drag.
yes - the story is good and consistent. The narration tells the story without distracting.
sure - I like the JA Jance stories but this one is not so good.
Something by Jeffery Archer or a re- read of one of William Kent Krueger's Cork series.
I purchased this last year and I have been trying to listen to it but keep giving up. It is really soft porn rather than a mystery. I can't even follow the story because the main female character is so weak, silly and stupid. This book is not to my liking and I tried to listen to it because it had such positive reviews. It is just not worth the effort. I give up - I can't even finish the first part of the book.
Murder in Vegas
New Crime Tales of Gambling and Desperation
by Michael Connelly (Editor)
read by Phil Gigante and Joyce Bean
None in this book but Gigante is a good narrator so I will listen to Murder in Vegas which I purchased at another book site.
It did seem as though it was a book that would provide some redemption or some resolution showing hope to save the children - but it didn't do that - it just provided gross humiliating actions by the female lead and a copy of an old resurfaced Chandler character.
Silly silly fun!
Charley - but Reyes is an interesting tone.
no extreme laugh or cry - but a reaction to too much of the sex stuff.About half way through this book I put all the "grave" series on my wish list. Then too much of the sex stuff in the story so I deleted the series from my wish list. Then I realized I can fast forward through the sex stuff and put them back on the wish list. Then I purchased the second grave book. It is hopeless. I am hooked. oh dear.
I cannot finish this book. Meg Gardiner stories are ususally pretty good and this one might be - but the narrator PRONOUNCES each sentence. Sounds like she thinks I bought the book to hear her perfect diction. I remembered after the first few minutes that I just hate the way this person reads.
NO!! I didn't mean to ever listen to her murdering a good book again. I slipped up and downloaded this one. I will be more careful. I didn't return it because I need to keep it to remind me not to buy any more of her stuff. ouch.
anger at the murder of a good story
Yes - this was such a silly title - but the book is a no stress mystery with some feel good characters and lots of play on what we have all read in the news many years past.
Not surprising - but I don't think that the author intended any surprises. The book is like a long conversation with an amusing friend that my have had too much sugar in the last 8 hours.
I don't know. I will have to read the book - which I think will be fun, too.
Yes. I called a friend and we went to see the latest king of the blow up movies (a good day to die hard - which was amazing by the way)
I will read and listen to a few more of his books. Also I will go to see some of the movies that they showed trailors for at the die hard move. except i can't remember the titles.
This is really much better than home front but there is so much more I want to hear about these characters. I hope someone will continue Joel's Sparky series.
I like the special ed teacher best - she is sort of the wise one in the story -
He speaks for all the characters in the way they sound in my mind when I read the book. This is a great talent. Wish I could explain this.
Please have someone continue this series. 2011 was a very sad year.
I loved the way the book made me feel good about friendships while making me wonder who might be bad guys later in the novel.
Sparky's bad natured responses to people then his changes.
This is a suspense but feel good book - with good descriptions of hometown relationships.
I don't love anything about a book. I like it and this is a good one. The characters were balanced and this book had an ending that was consistent with the entire story. He did not have to resort to a long explanation of facts not presented earlier in the book in order to make the ending work. Although the ending was not predictable, it was logical. Good job.
The frustration factor on the hero's cooperation in the destruction of his own reputation.
This was my second listen to Jonathan Davis and I like his performances. I will include him in my searches for a good listen.
yes, but long enough to enjoy over several days - and I could stop listening for a day and remember the story line when I picked it up again - It takes a solid story line to permit a break in the listen without confusing the characters when started again. Didn't have to rewind this to get back into the story.
The book includes references to and information about the way our financial institutions work - I hope he writes additional stories that include wall street and securities industries
