Divorce attorney Harper James can't catch a break. Bad enough that she runs into her ex-hubby, Nick, at her sister's destination wedding, but now, by a cruel twist of fate, she's being forced to make a cross-country road trip with him. And her almost-fiancé back at home is not likely to be sympathetic.

Kristan Higgins audibles narrated by Xe Sands are so much fun. The main character is always a little flawed with an off kilter sense of humor. The supporting cast is quirky, too. Really enjoyable listen. While not great enlightening literature, like listening to something Nora Ephraim would have splashed on the big screen. Just pure pleasure.

In Shaker Heights, a placid, progressive suburb of Cleveland, everything is planned - from the layout of the winding roads to the colors of the houses to the successful lives its residents will go on to lead. And no one embodies this spirit more than Elena Richardson, whose guiding principle is playing by the rules. Enter Mia Warren - an enigmatic artist and single mother - who arrives in this idyllic bubble with her teenage daughter, Pearl, and rents a house from the Richardsons.

I didn’t know if I’d like this book. The characters had such pain, yet were full of promise for change. The main character, MIA, reminded me of St. Exupery’s The Little Prince, “It is only with the heart that one can see rightly, what is essential is invisible to the eye.” Her character marvelously views the world with her camera into the very souls of all the other characters. Good narration, too.

She teams up with private investigator Lance Kruger. But the deeper they dig, the deadlier their investigation gets.

Good characters. Although crimes for mystery tend to be violent and graphic, the sexual sparks between Lance and Morgan balance the series. The children and other quirky characters add a pleasant touch. I’m looking forward to listening to the rest of the series.

What if our homes could tell the stories of others who lived there before us? Set in a small village near Paris, The Balcony follows the inhabitants of a single estate - including a manor and a servants' cottage - over the course of several generations, from the Belle Époque to the present day, introducing us to a fascinating cast of characters. A young American au pair develops a crush on her brilliant employer. An ex-courtesan shocks the servants, a Jewish couple in hiding from the Gestapo attract the curiosity of the neighbors, and a housewife begins an affair.

    Story

Too many characters who are ambiguously described. Book jumps around from various time periods whom I couldn’t tell if they were random or related. Thereby making no character fully developed. The ending was really bad. I think the first character comes back to the house but is married to someone she doesn’t love and the man she does love, comes for a visit but nothing is resolved. It is a series of incomplete family stories leaving the listener bored and confused. If you, don’t know French don’t bother. I have no idea why i’s even called THE BALCONY.

I read one of Ashley’s books before. But trying 2 others is very disappointing. She uses the same formula each time, a damsel beaten down by lousy men, an athletic also damaged hunk who has some macho job. Her dialog always has graphic four letter words, and the hunk is bossy and usually calls “his woman” babe in a growling voice. Not redeeming qualities in a guy I’d go for. At least change the dialog. A reader could just cut a paste a new Ashley book. I wouldn’t even waste my time if it was a daily deal!

Interesting series. But frustrating to the reader as the relationship between Shannon and MAC never seems to really progress. In a way this series is like the Stephanie plum Janet Evanovich ‘s books where the murder plot is good, but s a reader I would have liked the relationship to progress beyond high school dating with a few kisses, handholding and hugs. I like that Shannon is a strong female lead in a successful male dominated occupation, but Mac & Shannon have good chemistry and the relationship should be more adult, especially if the series is in romance genre.

I read this when it first came out years ago. To listen to it was so pleasurable. The narration was good. It is frightfully pricey so I was glad to have a credit to use. But the novel is so beautiful, Rich with description and color. I highly recommend it.

Jacob Hunt is a teen with Asperger's syndrome. He's hopeless at reading social cues or expressing himself well to others, though he is brilliant in many ways. But he has a special focus on one subject - forensic analysis. A police scanner in his room clues him in to crime scenes, and he's always showing up and telling the cops what to do. And he's usually right. But when Jacob's small hometown is rocked by a terrible murder, law enforcement comes to him. Jacob's behaviors are hallmark Asperger's, but they look a lot like guilt to the local police.

A most unusual crime story. A complicated family unravels a crime . Chapters are narrated by family members, the police and à lawyer. What makes the story so fascinating is that the listener is taught about the mind of a high functioning yet severely socially impaired young man with asbergers syndrome
