In this fifth book in the Magykal series, Septimus ends up on a captivatingly beautiful island, one of seven set in a sparkling sea. He's stranded there with his badly injured dragon, Spit Fyre, along with Jenna and Beetle. There are some strange things about the island, including a Magykal girl named Syrah, a cat-shaped lighthouse that has lost its Light, and an eerie presence that sings to Septimus - can he escape the persistent call?

I have enjoyed this series. I initially picked it out because I was looking for something my daughters might enjoy. I like it so much, I went on to continue the series. If you like Harry Potter or the Percy Jackson books you should enjoy this. This particular book was probably my favorite of the series. My 12 year old daughter has loved them as well! Can't wait for the next in the series!

Arlen Wagner has an awful gift: he can see death in the eyes of men before it strikes. He's never wrong. So when Arlen awakens on a train one hot Florida night and sees death's telltale sign in the eyes of his fellow passengers, he tries to warn them. Only 19-year-old Paul Brickhill believes him, and the two abandon the train, hoping to escape certain death. They continue south, but soon are stranded at The Cypress House - an isolated Gulf Coast boarding house run by the beautiful Rebecca Cady - directly in the path of an approaching hurricane.

Michele says: "Great book read by a great narrator!"
    "Hmmm"
    Overall

I honestly don't know how I feel about this book... I am always intrigued by this genre. I enjoy supernatural/fantasy/suspense books. This is certainly that. I don't know if I would say it is dark...maybe heavy??? I don't know.... If you are looking for a quick, light read, this is not for you. However, although this isn't one I would read again, I am glad that I read it. It kept me interested.

Nine of us came here. We look like you. We talk like you. We live among you. But we are not you. We can do things you dream of doing. We have powers you dream of having. We are stronger and faster than anything you have ever seen. We are the superheroes you worship in movies and comic books—but we are real.

Brynn says: "Annoying book we wanted to like"
    "Great Young Adult Story...WRONG narrator..."
    Overall

This was such a great action packed story but is most definitely geared toward the young adult crowd. If you like books like Harry Potter, The Twilight Series, etc... you will enjoy this.
The narrator was not a good match for the story because he could not do female voices at ALL. This did annoy me at times but the story was good enough that I was able to still enjoy it. I think it was worth the credits/money. I say give it a try!

Deep in the stacks of Oxford's Bodleian Library, young scholar Diana Bishop unwittingly calls up a bewitched alchemical manuscript in the course of her research. Descended from an old and distinguished line of witches, Diana wants nothing to do with sorcery; so after a furtive glance and a few notes, she banishes the book to the stacks. But her discovery sets a fantastical underworld stirring, and a horde of daemons, witches, and vampires soon descends upon the library.

    "Slow start but AWESOME book!"
    Overall

I never write reviews but I felt compelled to put in a comment or two. One of the reviews I read before buying this book basically said that it was horribly slow and boring..9 hours of nothing so far... I will admit that the character development in the beginning was longer than most, and I did wish for it to move quicker at times, BUT once it did, it moved quickly and was full of excitement. The audio book is broken up into 3 sections. The 2nd and 3rd parts are quick moving and fantastic. The first part is slower but gives a good basis for the remainder of the book. I loved this book! I couldn't stop listening and was frustrated at the end because it leaves you smack dab in the middle of a story that will HOPEFULLY continue soon! I would definitely recommend this book to anyone who is intrigued by the world of Witches, Vampires, Demons, and more!
