  • Roadside Crosses: A Kathryn Dance Novel

The Monterey Peninsula is rocked when a killer begins to leave roadside crosses beside local highways -- not in memoriam, but as announcements of his intention to kill. And to kill in particularly horrific and efficient ways: using the personal details about the victims that they've carelessly posted in blogs and on social networking websites.

    B. Riddick says: "Okay....but not 20 hours and not Deaver's best"
    "Good, but not 20 hours!"
    Overall

Typical Deaver book--the writing isn't fantastic but the plot is fun and always leaves you guessing.

I was really disappointed, though, that the last six hours of the book was an abridged version of The Blue Nowhere (which I've already read).

Anyway, it's a fun listen, but ignore the third part of the download.

  • One Step Behind: A Kurt Wallander Mystery

    • UNABRIDGED (15 hrs and 58 mins)

On Midsummer's Eve, three role-playing teens dressed in 18th-century garb are shot in a secluded Swedish meadow. When one of Inspector Kurt Wallander's most trusted colleagues, someone whose help he hoped to rely on to solve the crime, also turns up dead, Wallander knows the murders are related. But with his only clue a picture of a woman no one in Sweden seems to know, he can't begin to imagine how.

    "Narration is terrible"
    Overall

I'm halfway through this book so far. This is the first time I've forced myself to sit though a book that Dick Hill has narrated. I am stumped as to why he's been allowed to read so many books. All of the characters sound exactly the same and the way he breaks up sentences every few words is driving me insane.

The plot is keeping me listening, but the terrible narration highlights all the (minor) flaws in the book so far. I might end up giving up and finishing the book in print.
