One night when he was 10, Tyler stood in his backyard and watched the stars go out. They flared into brilliance, then disappeared, replaced by an empty black barrier. He and his best friends, Jason and Diane Lawton, had seen what became known as the Big Blackout. It would shape their lives.

This is one of the best sci-fi books i've downloaded from audible, and i've downloaded dozens.
The author is of a rare breed in sci-fi in that he is able to tell a compelling story about dynamic individuals within the context of a deeply sci-fi background. Most sci-fi authors are pretty bad at character development, and focus mainly on the science part of it. Not so with this guy!

Join the Army and See the Universe. That is the motto of The Third Space War, also known as The First Interstellar War, but most commonly as The Bug War. In one of Robert Heinlein's most controversial best sellers, a recruit of the future goes through the toughest boot camp in the universe - and into battle with the Terrain Mobile Infantry against mankind's most alarming enemy.

    Michael says: "Well Aged Heinlein"
    "Great story, bad narrator"
    Overall

Let me start of by saying that this story is great. The characters and plot are well thought out and are believable. I don't believe I haven't read the book by now.
That being said, the narrator is horrible. He often sounds like he just ran up a flight of steps and is out of breath, and other times he sounds like he's bored or depressed as he sighs while he reads, but the worst thing is all of the pauses. He literally pauses for about a second after each sentence. After you notice it, it becomes hard to concentrate on the story.

I would still recommend downloading and listening to this book because the story is so strong, but I would suggest listening to the audio sample first to get an idea of what you are in for.
