"I like it......well done!"
This is the continuation of Kitchen Confidential...and also a review of sorts of many of the heavy hitters in the food business...from the Restaurants to the TV shows....a insightful background story that is always entertaining and even though it is NSFW, it delivers a great life lesson....you never know where you will end up, and the journey can be so interesting....well done! Great narration and great story....
"6 STARS!! If only possible!"
Run, don't walk to Mr Penumbra's and just do it! What a masterful book! Mystery, Tekky, New-Fangled, and old-fashioned all at once, and Robin Sloan brings it all home in the end like a Seinfeld episode!
Wow, after the listen, realizing; no sex (thanks), no violence (thanks) no language (thanks) no politics (even though it is set in SF!) and is still the most engaging mystery/novel/suspense and fantasy thing I have had the pleasure to have listened to in a LONG while! Platonic but not boring, characters you know and settings that are new and old all at once. Hits all the high points, and the pitch-perfect performance by Ari Fliakos will have me looking for his work again as well.
Sloan is hopefully the new J.K. Rowling, and will be looking for more! I never wanted this one to end!
Thanks you Robin Sloan from a classic mystery lover, and to Ari Fliakos for the great performance.
"Why--Because they're funny too!"
Just liking the series, just enough spice to keep it edgy, story enough to keep it interesting, well written to keep me in the story, and the performance by the narrator is spot on!
My third one, and enjoying the characters as developing, evolving and interesting as time is passing....
As long as these elements remain, I will keep listening!
"Fun and Light!"
Sometimes this is just what you need, nothing heavy, a story enough to be interesting and the narration easy on the ears....just right!
"Wow! What a Treat!, thanks!"
Lyrical writing, fabulous story, takes you to a place that you would want to be forever!
....all in the first chapter!!
a definite listen....with another treat....narration by the author, and done beautifully as well!
"Bittersweet, But a Great Listen!"
Since the passing this year of author Stephen Cannell, unless there were more manuscripts, will miss his wonderful way with the 'police case' mystery.....great characters, humor and action.
Scott Brick as the narrator was 'spot on' and very easy to listen and enjoy over and over....as is what will have to happen. Will have to go back and listen to the rest of the 'Shane Skully' series...but from this one, they work well as a stand alone story as well, and the narration really adds to the story.
"Not worth the price!"
To listen to an old man (spittle lisping sounds and all!) read about his past, and dreams of 'Swedish stewardess' is pathetic at best....and a waste of time at worst...
I call it a waste of time....
"good not great....."
Having never read the author, and purchased after listening to the free excerpt, it was what was promised, a serviceable, interesting listen...not great, but good enough (especially after my last two clunkers!)to keep me interested and the annoyance level was minimal....I found the narration fine, the story had enough twists and turns to keep me going and it entertained! I might even listen to it again sometime...
"No Stars if Possible.....don't waste a credit...."
Having never read this author, didn't realize what I was in for....juvenile, bathroom, masturbatory, crude and vulgar humor. A story that never gained traction, and 'every other sentence' gratuitously vulgar references. Got tired of the characters talking about the size of their ****, and how often they ****, and what chambermaid has the biggest *****.......
This would be a great read for junior high boys.
The narrator was good but I was looking for a 'King Lear' style story..the style was, the story not even...!
"Wow, a great Listen!!"
Talk about putting you in the Holiday spirit!!
Love the Tim Curry narration of this classic, will have to look for him as a narrator for other reads!
Thanks Audible!
