Across the country women are being murdered by a killer who leaves no evidence, no fatal wounds, no signs of struggle, and no clues to a motive. They are, truly, perfect crimes. In fact, the only thing that links the victims is the man they all knew: Jack Reacher.

Would you consider the audio edition of Running Blind to be better than the print version?

Audible's offering of this book not by usual narrator, Dick Hill. McClain is not a good narrator. So Dick Hill's audio would be better than print version. He brings it to life. McClain makes you not even want to listen; in fact, I didn't, and I returned it.

Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?

I like all the Reacher books. Fun to really listen to the dialog to pick up clues before Reacher does.

How did the narrator detract from the book?

I couldn't even finish listening to McClain. In fact, I started researching why I thought he was so bad. I previously listened to all the Reacher audiobooks which I got from the library. All books were narrated by Dick Hill - and he did an awesome job. I discovered Audible didn't offer the Dick Hill read. Didn't realize there could be different narrators for the same book. Just assumed it was the same as what I got from the library. So...if you're really familiar with a book series, check narrators before ordering from Audible. Luckily Audible is gracious about letting you return books with which you are unhappy.

    Any additional comments?

Wish Audible would offer all the Reacher books narrated only by Dick Hill.

Is there anything you would change about this book?

Male narrator was not good; lacked inflection; totally changed the visual picture of the lead characters.

How would you have changed the story to make it more enjoyable?

Didn't really care for the story line. Got better towards the end. I read sequel-written books and felt I had to finish this one - just because.

Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Paul Costanzo and Renee Raudman ?

My favorite narrators are Joe Mantegna and Dick Hill

Do you think Hemlock Bay needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?

Not based on this story line.

    Any additional comments?

    Don't recommend.

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

Not an easy listen. I like to listen to book series so basically made myself finish. I like get to know the characters and follow their actions in sequential books. This book had trouble with the fluidity of the characters and what went on in their lives (i.e. marriage, children, etc.)

Would you recommend The Edge to your friends? Why or why not?

    Probably not.

Did Robert Lawrence do a good job differentiating all the characters? How?

Did not enjoy the narrator at all. Sounded like someone was reading a play script. Voices used for characters didn't match visuals created from narrators in first books.

If this book were a movie would you go see it?

    No

    Any additional comments?

An author should stick with one narrator throughout their series so the persona of the characters is consistent - provided they are a talented narrator.

This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?

    No one

What was most disappointing about James Patterson and Maxine Paetro ’s story?

First book of this series I thought was - I'm searching for the right word - and stupid is what comes to mind. I know it's harsh, but that's what I thought of the storyline. Was just not believable - almost sci-fi. When I tried to describe the story to someone I had to laugh. This is definitely a "pass".

Did the narration match the pace of the story?

Yes, but the narrator was not very good either. More like just reading a story instead of performing the dialog.

What character would you cut from Unlucky 13?

    None

    Any additional comments?

Felt the writers were really stretching trying to find a storyline for this book. Everything was too forced - relationships and the dialog that went with their interactions. Took away from their professionalism, making them almost juvenile while communicating.

After losing his leg to a land mine in Afghanistan, Cormoran Strike is barely scraping by as a private investigator. Then John Bristow walks through his door with an amazing story: his sister, the legendary supermodel Lula Landry, famously fell to her death a few months earlier. The police ruled it a suicide, but John refuses to believe that. The case plunges Strike into the world of multimillionaire beauties, rock-star boyfriends, and desperate designers, and it introduces him to every variety of pleasure, enticement, seduction, and delusion known to man.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Since I knew JK Rowling wrote this under the name of Robert Galbraith I made an effort to read this. She has a unique talent for putting the reader in the story mentally. She creates such good visuals. Story was a bit slower, but made for a perfectly relaxing read/listen. I'm looking forward to #2 - Silkworm. I thought the British narrator was good also. I recommend anything she writes!

Who was your favorite character and why?

They all were important and the writing made them each unique. I thought Robin, the secretary, is the strongest support character. As Cormoran Striker, the lead character, develops I hope to see more 'in control of himself' develop - he's big, strong, smart, but still regrouping after Afghanistan. I envision Robin helping do that in the next book.

What about Robert Glenister’s performance did you like?

I thought he did a great job transitioning from character to character without having it interjected "he said" "she said", which I find very annoying. A good narrator doesn't need to do that, and this narrator didn't. I'll look for other readings he has done.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Not really, but that didn't diminish how much I liked it.

    Any additional comments?

I also like it didn't have much graphic gore detailed.

Reacher's anonymity in Florida is shattered by an investigator who's come looking for him. But hours after his arrival, the stranger is murdered. Retracing the PI's trail back to New York, Reacher's compelled to find out who was looking for him and why. He never expected the reasons to be so personal - and twisted.

Is there anything you would change about this book?

Nothing except McClain is a terrible narrator!

What didn’t you like about Jonathan McClain’s performance?

No personality or good voice inflections. Dick Hill, the ususal narrator is so much better. Had to force myself to listen to McClain and then gave up. Originally listened to whole Reacher series from Library Audiobooks - all narrated by Dick Hill. Did not even realize there was another narrator when I ordered from Audible. Turns out #2 Die Trying, #3 Tripwire, and #4 Running Blind from Audible all narrated by McClain. I'm returning all and don't recommend anyone getting this narrator. Go to the library. Dick Hill really brings Reacher to life and gets you hooked on the series. When I called Audible they couldn't explain why the different narrator and said it was what the supplier provided. So make sure you know what you're getting. Don't base the Reacher series on this narrator. There is a world of difference when you listen to Dick Hill.

What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?

    A different narrator!

Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?

Couldn't get past the narrator to find out, but I'm sure the content is good. Will be reading it instead of listening.

How did the narrator detract from the book?

I've listened or read almost all the books in this series. This narrator is terrible. Dialog undiscernable and monotone. Going to order the book. Will ask for a refund.
