My Thoughts Be Bloody, a sweeping family saga, revives an extraordinary figure whose name has been missing, until now, from the story of President Lincoln's death. Edwin Booth, John Wilkes's older brother by four years, was in his day the biggest star of the American stage. Without an account of Edwin Booth, author Nora Titone argues, the real story of Lincoln's assassin has never been told.

Where does My Thoughts Be Bloody rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

One of my top 3 audible books of all times.

What did you like best about this story?

As a stage technician on a Broadway show, I was fascinated by descriptions of stage craft in the 1800's. Everyone, even now, thinks how glamorous show business is. This gives a long hard look behind those velvet curtains. What a struggle it really was just the logistics of getting from one town to another.

What about John B. Lloyd’s performance did you like?

Excellent performance by John B. Lloyd. Very easy on the ears.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

Think you know the story of Lincoln's assassin? You don't know 1/2 of the drama.

    Any additional comments?

1/3 of the book is about the father of John Wilkes and Edwin Booth. You cannot begin to understand the motivation of the brothers without understanding their nutty as a fruitcake father Junius Brutus Booth, a genius, a vegetarian, a drunk and a wife beater. They don't make them like that anymore.

Where does Manson rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

This book is in the top 5 of all the books I've listened to and the #1 biography.

What did you like best about this story?

The author put Manson's life in context with a view to the current events of the eras. It integrated social movements like the rock and roll scene, the Chicago Convention of 1968, Kent State and the Vietnam war as the background to Manson's story line.

    Which scene was your favorite?

The opening scene where the Golden Penetrators, Dennis Wilson of the Beach Boys and his entourage, go to the Whiskey a GoGo with Charlie Manson. It establishes the Rock and Roll hierarchy and Charlie's place in it in a nutshell.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

I don't know what the tag line would be but I nominate Colin Farrell to play Charlie Manson.

    Any additional comments?

I would have liked to see the photos that came with the book. My only complaint about Audible is that they don't include photo downloads with all of their books that include photos. It would be easy enough, especially with the Audible app. I don't need "Listening Badges" or the graphs that chart how much or how often I listen. I need the photos that are in the actual books that I purchased.

What made the experience of listening to Wolf Hall the most enjoyable?

I had tried to read the book in written form and found it daunting. When I listened to the audible sample it was a revelation. So much more easy to understand.

Who was your favorite character and why?

The reader made every voice distinct, like an actor he made each character unique. As the protagonist, Thomas Cromwell is the star of the show.

Which character – as performed by Simon Slater – was your favorite?

I loved the voice of Cardinal Woolsey. As Simon Slater rendered him, I could perfectly visualize a fat old man in his red robes.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

At over 21 hours long it would have to be a marathon of listening to hear in in one sitting. Great value for one credit.

    Any additional comments?

Loved this book: excellent writing, excellent imagining of an oft told tale. And what a fantastic narrator. Already bought the sequel : Bring Up the Bodies

The story of John Self and his insatiable appetite for money, alcohol, drugs, porn and more. Ceaselessly inventive and thrillingly savage, it is a tale of life lived without restraint; of money and the disasters it can precipitate.

Would you listen to Money again? Why?

Yes! Loved the narrator's voice. It was perfect for the content

What other book might you compare Money to and why?

Life by Keith Richards because it's the story of a very bad boy living a very high life in the 1980's Joe Hurley who is one of the narrators of Keith Richard's book has a similar gravely voice with an English accent. Sexy

Have you listened to any of Graeme Malcom’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

No, I haven't seen any other books narrated by Graeme Malcom, however, I sent for a film he appeared in

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Yes, I laughed out loud to several things in the book and it isn't a comedy by any means.

    Any additional comments?

Martin Amis has written a tale that is witty, clever and also disturbing about a man lost in a haze of drugs, porn and money in the 1980's. Absolutely brilliant portrait of the high life world of Hollywood, New York and London through the eyes of a very damaged film director.
