Mirabelle, the "shopgirl" behind the glove counter at Neiman Marcus, is slightly lost, off-kilter, and shy. But there's something about Mirabelle. Steve Martin reads this charming novella. Hear an interview with the author and browse more Martin.

Once you move away from LA you realize relationships are not meant to be like this & therefore this book is not entertaining. But, this is a slice of LA, probably one that Steve has experienced & he/his pals thought funny made into a movie. That???s all it takes in LA, a ???celebrity??? with an idea???you get it. 2 ?? stars at the most. That???s because the protagonist slams the ???steve??? character, in my view.

Pirriwee Public's annual school Trivia Night has ended in a shocking riot. One parent is dead. The school principal is horrified. As police investigate what appears to have been a tragic accident, signs begin to indicate that this devastating death might have been cold-blooded murder. In this thought-provoking novel, number-one New York Times best-selling author Liane Moriarty deftly explores the reality of parenting and playground politics, ex-husbands and ex-wives, and fractured families.

What made the experience of listening to Big Little Lies the most enjoyable?

This book had the pacing of a 'Big Screen' movie: sometimes chilling, other times light & humorous; then your heart is actually racing. For the first time, I could not go to sleep until I finished this book. Then I had to start again in the morning. The author makes some excellent points regarding men's attitudes re: women which the recent Gen(s) have completely chucked. I missed this the first listen and I salute her. Of course, my overall favorite character is Mitch Rapp, so go figure.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Wow, hard to say, all the leading characters, even the antagonists. You hate to give anything away on a review. And believe me this is a cliffhanger.

What does Caroline Lee bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Have no idea, not read the book. Other than she reads in an Australian accent.

Who was the most memorable character of Big Little Lies and why?

Too hard...Celeste? Madeline? Oh I know, Bonnie, but I can't say why.

    Any additional comments?

Don't let yourself get distracted for a moment, you will miss a vital element? A hint? Or get ready to listen again.

Andrew Yancy - late of the Miami Police and soon-to-be-late of the Monroe County sheriff’s office - has a human arm in his freezer. There’s a logical (Hiaasenian) explanation for that, but not for how and why it parted from its shadowy owner. Yancy thinks the boating-accident/shark-luncheon explanation is full of holes, and if he can prove murder, the sheriff might rescue him from his grisly Health Inspector gig (it’s not called the roach patrol for nothing). But first - this being Hiaasen country - Yancy must negotiate an obstacle course of wildly unpredictable events with a crew of even more wildly unpredictable characters.

What would have made Bad Monkey better?

    George Wilson? Any other reader?

What do you think your next listen will be?

I'm listening as I write this so it's hard to say. I feel sick as I love CH.

How could the performance have been better?

    Skip the Audio Version?

If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from Bad Monkey?

    Close the set?

    Any additional comments?

I know it's hard when the "bar" so to speak is set so high. OK, it's over.

Would you listen to Debt of Honor again? Why?

    Yes

Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?

    I hope.

    Any additional comments?

I actually haven't listened to the book yet, but was forced to "review it" in order to give you this tip.

Another reviewer remarked about the "slowness" of the speaker & he/she said it was an easy fix. If you are using an Apple product, you merely speed up the Audiobook under the Settings. Wow, it worked! OK, so many of you guys already knew that, but I am PC based. But for all the complainers, I wish they had changed their iPods, lol.

In the summer of 1974, a 14-year-old girl in Dolton, Illinois, had a dream - a dream to become an actress. But it was a long way from the South Side of Chicago to Hollywood, and it didn’t help that she’d recently dropped out of the school play, The Ugly Duckling, or that the Hollywood casting directors she wrote to replied that "professional training was a requirement". But the funny thing is, it all came true....

Must confess when my nano went to "next", my hands were full & I heard which book was up, I was skeptical. Oh was I wrong. Gotta give it a chance; moves really fast; very funny; heartfelt. I like it. Did I say it's really funny? But she is NOT, so not Sue on Glee, that is a character, after all she is an actor. (I just realized I said "so not Sue.. well I am from LA. so Janie will get that.) Thanks for letting me share.

Although it starts so slowly you might want to not listen at all, keep going. It is very timely especially with Steve Jobs' death. Not to use a movie metaphor, but this book gives us a peek, heck, not a peek, it yanks the curtain down. I always thought Katzenberg & Ovitz were 1) "bad guy" and 2) "the dummy", but that was just the spin. You'll also read in detail about Eisenberg's relationship with Jobs, well, I don't want to give it away, but Steve is quite emotional about M. Eisenberg. If you watched TV, went shopping in a mall, visited D-land or Orlando or watched any blockbuster movies, you will want to read (aka listen) this book.

Before he was considered a CIA superagent, before he was thought of as a terrorists worst nightmare, and before he was both loathed and admired by the politicians on Capitol Hill, Mitch Rapp was a gifted college athlete without a care in the world . . . and then tragedy struck.

One of the less than positive reviewers said ???If you are looking for your first Vince Flynn novel, don't choose this one.??? and I agree. While I loved the inside view, going back in time, finding out how Irene found Mitch, finally understanding why the two are so close; someone who has never read any other books might not appreciate those things. On the other hand, what a great introduction to the series, and I envy the person who has all the books to ???read??? especially now that Vince is releasing the back catalog in unabridged. As one of the reviewers in ???my camp??? said, ???I wish we had more Mitch Rapps.??? Vince Flynn takes a lot of risks (surprises) in his writing, this was another one.

Why we think it’s a great listen: How do you one-up a book that’s already a global literary phenomenon? Hire Simon Vance to (flawlessly) interpret the loves, lives, and murders of Sweden’s cold and secret-filled world. A spellbinding amalgam of murder mystery, family saga, love story, and financial intrigue. It's about the disappearance 40 years ago of Harriet Vanger, a young scion of one of the wealthiest families in Sweden.

Pamela Murphy says: "COULD NOT PUT IT DOWN"
    "Remarkable Series"
    Overall

Please don???t categorize these books as "violence against women." They're thrillers, like Vince Flynn's series or John Sandford's. Theirs aren't exactly tame, but no one takes one or two scenes of Flynn???s and Sandford???s books and brands the entire book based on those paragraphs. Trust me, if there are any violent sections, they are brief and necessary.

I don't watch much or any TV, nor do I listen to or like any books or movies one would rate anything stronger than PG or PG-13. Silence of the Lambs, The Exorcist? R u kidding?? and I am 50+. I haven't stopped listening to this entire series since I downloaded all 3 books two months ago, literally. I am normally a significant Audible customer: I haven't purchased another book since then. They are probably wondering where I went. Well, I went into Lisbeth Salander-land.

To be balanced, some of the story is a little far fetched, for example, she is a self-taught extreme hacker. You just have to go with it, and love it about her.

I don???t know why I never ???read??? these books before. I think it was the Hornet and the Bee-Keeper connotation. I can only encourage you to read all three in order. p.s. This is the first review I have written on Audible.

Hollywood has sent its emissaries to New Iberia Parish to film a Civil War epic in the steaming mists of the Louisiana bayou, reawakening the ghosts of a past best left undisturbed. The restless specters wait in the shadows for Cajun cop Dave Robicheaux as he hunts a serial butcher who is preying on the less-than-innocent young. For these spirits are the guardians of Robicheaux's darkest torments, and they hold the key to ultimate salvation - or a final, fatal downfall.

Great story and a wonderful reader. Will Patton is the perfect reader for Burke's narratives. However, his books are too complex to be abridged, at least in this length. Check out Tin Roof Blow Down for a really great listen. It will make you purchase all the others as it did for me.
