I have always been a big fan of Ethan Canin so I was very excited to start listening to America, America. I was quite disappointed in the overall story. There is a great story there, but Mr. Canin failed to draw it out. The story lost energy when the author tried to be a little too clever in trying to surprise the reader along the way in a very understated way. It had so many possibilities that I wished it could be revisited. Still, it is better than most books so deserves the 3 stars.

Revised Fundamentals of Caregiving was a definite shift from my usual listen. I thought the narrator, Jeff Woodman, did a great job of presenting the tone of the novel. This is the first listen in a long time that I couldn't put down. Generally, I only allow myself to listen in my vehicle. But I broke that rule and listened at home as well. I'm very glad that I listened. I'm looking forward to the author's next work.

The Sense of an Ending: A Novel didn't really have a sense of an ending for me. However, I recommend it to every Audible listener. It makes you think about your life and your memories. You begin to wonder just how much historical revisionism you have applied to your own life.

Pat Conroy is such a master! I thoroughly enjoyed the flavor of Charleston which he so ably brought to the story. The narrator, Mark Deakins, brought even more of that flavor to life and made me glad to have listened to this book Instead of reading it. The tempo of the prose and the tempo of the reading melded perfectly resulting in a wonderful listening experience. The story is also quite memorable. I've decided to visit Charleston soon.
