I've just finished this zombie version of "P&P", which I loved, and checked all the reviews and links for Katherine Kellgren at Audible. This is the first time I hunted for additional titles by narrator. It feels as though I'm late to discover her. I've never heard such a reader! Bright, precise, compelling torrents of speech delivered with awesome energy and conviction! She projects REAL feeling for Austen's language. In addition, Seth Grahame-Smith did fine work as well, to put the twist on the tale. I hope that other classic titles will receive this kind of clever makeover. I'll be waiting.
When you search Audible for "Dracula" by Bram Stoker it's easy to get confused; there are almost 30 choices spread over 3 pages. I got lucky. Based on the small audio sample, my choice was this production by "Books in Motion". Their version is based on the 1897 book, and it's a full 18 hours, 11 minutes. AND the downloads (3 parts) are available in Audible's new "Enhanced format" for best sound. I own a hardcover edition of Dracula as well and nothing is missing here. Unabridged, for sure.
The narration is done by a CAST of talented actors, and they live their roles! A personal favorite was the Professor, Van Helsing, but everyone did a great job. Sound effects were handled well also, and the voices of Count Dracula and his voluptuous "brides" are quite chilling. A true classic, and a great adventure!
I'm very impressed with Kate Atkinson's well-written go at the private investigator genre because it's wonderfully atypical and unusually accomplished for that brand of fiction (which I love). And I have to rave about the narrator, Susan Jameson! What a performance! I feel as though I have real memories of at least 10 different men, women, and kids. This was a very satisfying book for me because the story progressed more like life does, without results predictably handed over every chapter. Between the writing and the narration I got more than I paid for, including some good laughter as well as a few tears.
The rare combination of great subject, writing, and reading make this one a best buy. The author, David McCullough, has the perfect voice to narrate audio. Check the sample. I looked to see what else he might have narrated. And his subject; I was born too late to remember Truman but what a revelation this book is! According to the record, America hasn't had this kind of genuine leadership since Truman's term ended. He lived in an amazing time in U.S. history. He was a truly unique individual and an outstanding American president!
