Would you try another book from Carl Hiaasen and Bill Montalbano and/or Robert Ramirez?

After reading other books by Hiaasen, I am convinced that he simply put the finishing touches and added a few funny parts to this tome after Montalbano had finished.

What could Carl Hiaasen and Bill Montalbano have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?

I would have had Montalbano tell Hiaasen the structure of the story, and then have Carl alone write the book in his style.

Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Robert Ramirez?

The idea of having a young Latino read the book was a good one, but It seems that you need someone with a greater range of tone in his voice. It needs to be read by someone older, and with a more gruff voice.

What character would you cut from Powder Burn?

    No Idea.

Meet Jonathan Quinn: a freelance operative with a take-no-prisoners style and the heart of a loner. His job? Professional "cleaner". Nothing too violent, just disposing of bodies. But his latest assignment will change everything. The job seemed simple enough: investigating a suspicious case of arson. But when a dead body turns up, and Quinn's handlers at "the Office" turn strangely silent, he knows he's in over his head. With only a handful of clues, Quinn struggles to find out why someone wants him dead.

    Overall

Over-read, as in Over-acted. The book was ok, but I truly struggled with Mr. Brick's, William Shatner-esque reading of it. I will not buy any more of the books read by this person. Did anyone listen to this reading before it was put out for sale?

I have never heard an author read his own work more poorly. I could only listen to the first 5 minutes due to the choppiness of his reading. This book must be a better read than is a listen.

  • Snow Crash

    • UNABRIDGED (17 hrs and 3 mins)

Neal Stephenson is a blazing new force on the sci-fi scene. With the groundbreaking cyberpunk novel Snow Crash, he has "vaulted onto the literary stage." It weaves virtual reality, Sumerian myth, and just about everything in between with a cool, hip cybersensibility - in short, it is the gigathriller of the information age.

    A. Tuck says: "Classic Stephenson"
    "Excellent Book, Mediocre Narrator"
    Overall

I have read this book 4 times or so and have listened to it only once. As I have read in reviews of other books in the Audible library, certain traits of the narrator's speech seep into the reading of the book that stand out in the recordings. This narrator is one who pronounces (what should be) silent G's. If he says, "looking", it sounds like, "lookin-guh". I heard it every one of the 1000 times he pronounced a G in this way. It drove me to never LISTEN to it again.
