Her job description is the "tracking and apprehension of mentally-fractured killers". What this really means in FBI profiler Jace Valchek's brave new world - one in which only one percent of the population is human - is that a woman's work is never done. And real is getting stranger every day. Jace has been ripped from her reality by David Cassius, the vampire head of the NSA. He knows that she's the best there is in the business, and David needs her help in solving a series of gruesome murders of vampires and werewolves.

While the narrator was wonderful and the writer talented, I just couldn't get into the characters in this book. I felt that the differences/similarities between the dimensions were not different enough in some cases, but the things that were very different just seemed odd. I just found myself not really caring what happened to the main character and felt she made really bad choices.

I used to be ordinary Samantha Day, but that's changed. Now, after one dark kiss from a dangerous boy, I can steal someone's soul…or their life. If I give in to the constant hunger inside me, I hurt anyone I kiss. If I don't…I hurt myself. Bishop is the one whose kiss I crave most, but if I kiss him, I'll kill him. Then there's another boy, one I can't hurt. One whose kiss seems to miraculously quell my hunger.

    Story

The plot was overly complicated and drawn out a bit, but still enjoyable. I just felt like towards the end I wanted it to hurry up and be over. A lot of the plot was predictable. This is kind of a second rate Darynda Jones book as the story lines are sooo similar. But Darynda Jones does a better job. (see Death and the Girl Next Door)

That being said, I still thought it was a good read and worth a credit, especially if you enjoyed book one.

The narrator definetely makes this story a great listen. She is one of my favorites!

The normal part of Lorelei MacAlister's life didn’t just slip away quietly the day Jared Kovach came to town. Nope. The normal part of her life shattered. It exploded. It burst into a gazillion shards of fleeting light. It went out with a bang. Goodbye normal. Hello dark and eerie. While her best friend, Brooklyn, is focusing all of her energy on helping Lorelei hone her abilities, Lorelei is dealing with the reality that Satan's second in command has taken up residence inside her body. Oh, and the fact that she has a crush on the Angel of Death.

Where does Death, Doom, and Detention rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

Darynda Jones is by far one of my favorite authors and this book exceeded my expectations.

Who was your favorite character and why?

I love the dynamic between Cameron and Jared.

What about Lorelei King’s performance did you like?

I love everything abut Lorelei King's performance! I don't know how she has time to voice so many of my favorite books, but I am very glad she does!

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

I laughed out loud quite a few times.

    Any additional comments?

The only bad part about the book was that it ended. I am really looking forward to the next one and I don't know if I can wait until OCTOBER! :(

Smart, über-careful, ordinary Samantha - that's me. But I just couldn't pass up a surprise kiss from my number one unattainable crush. A kiss that did something to me…something strange. Now I feel hungry all the time, but not for food. It's like part of me is missing - and I don't know if I can get it back. Then there's Bishop. At first I thought he was just a street kid, but the secrets he's keeping are as intense as his unearthly blue eyes. If he's what I think he is, he may be the only one who can help me.

If you could sum up Dark Kiss in three words, what would they be?

    Angels, Demons & Grays

What was one of the most memorable moments of Dark Kiss?

When the main characters finally kissed, and the repercussions of that.

What does Amanda Ronconi bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

I LOVE Amanda Ronconi! She could read the phone book and make is sound great!

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

I did look forward to getting back to the story.

    Any additional comments?

The ending was a little abrupt and obviously continues on in another book, but it would have been nice to get a little more in this first book.

When LA’s vampires, witches, and werewolves make a mess, they call Scarlett Bernard to clean it up. Her ability as a null erases all magical traces from anything — or anyone — that comes within ten feet of her, and keeps humans in the dark about the city’s paranormal activity. One night when she’s called to a grisly crime scene, Scarlett is spied by the all-too-human LAPD cop Jesse Cruz, who strikes up a deal with her: he’ll keep quiet about the supernatural underworld if she helps him crack the case. She agrees, but the city’s chief vampire, Dash, starts to suspect Scarlett is behind the murders and will reveal all she knows of his shadowy empire. Now it’ll take more than Scarlett’s unique abilities to clear her name, keep the underworld underground, and track down the real killer.

What made the experience of listening to Dead Spots the most enjoyable?

This book was a wonderful new view on the paranormal. I loved how the author wove back and forth between the past and present, giving us bits and pieces of the main character's background. Very well done.

What did you like best about this story?

I found the relationship between the main character and the two men in her life intriguing and I look forward to seeing how it progresses.

What does Amy McFadden bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

It took me a couple of chapters to get used to the reader, but she really made the characters come alive, and now I can't imagine it being read by anyone else.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

I couldn't wait to get back to it each day!

I agree with past reviews that this story started out very slowly. A bit too much descriptive writing about the scenery and not enough about the characters, but it does pick up midway through the book. The narrator was very hard to get used to. She has a very wispy voice and every sentence just trails off..... Once the story started to pick up I was able to get past the voice, but I am not sure if I will go to the next book in the series if it is the same reader.

Ten years ago, Lorelei's parents disappeared without a trace. Raised by her grandparents and leaning on the support of her best friends, Lorelei is finally beginning to accept the fact that her parents are never coming home. For Lorelei, life goes on. High school is not quite as painful as she thinks it will be, and things are as normal as they can be. Until the day the school's designated loner, Cameron Lusk, begins to stalk her, turning up where she least expects it, standing outside her house in the dark, night after night. Things get even more complicated when a new guy - terrifying, tough, sexy Jared Kovach - comes to school.

But when a woman shows up on her doorstep convinced someone is trying to kill her, Charley has to force herself to rise above. Or at least get dressed. She quickly realizes something is amiss when everyone the woman knows swears she’s insane.

I can't tell you how many times I laughed out loud while listening to this latest installment of the Charley Davidson series! The humor, the chemistry between Charley and Reyes...steaming hot, and a great plot makes this the best so far! Just like the previous books, I can not wait for book 5!

My only frustration is that Charley seems to be really dense when it comes to what she is capable of, and that doesn't really fit with her character overall.

Iris Scanlon, Half-Moon Hollow's only daytime vampire concierge, knows more about the undead than she'd like. Running all their daylight errands - from letting in the plumber to picking up some chilled O neg - gives her a look at the not-so-glamorous side of vampire life. Her rules are strict; relationships with vamps are strictly business, not friendship - and certainly not anything else. But then she finds her newest client, Cal, poisoned on his kitchen floor, and only Iris can help.
