No political-science degree could ever prepare Elizabeth Miller for her new job as a second assistant at The Agency, whose celebrity clients include everyone you've never met¿.but you know who they're sleeping with. For anyone who loves The Devil Wears Prada or The Nanny, The Second Assistant is a tale about life in the Hollywood fast lane with the top down.

Of course you won't find truth and reality in this book - it's chick-lit! Yet it's a successful representative of this genre. I can recommend it.

When Alma Dawson, a middle-aged, hard-working single mother, sets out to get the tuition money for her daughter's last year of college, she never dreamed her entire world would be turned upside down. A poignant, inspiring story, this novelette is a testimony to a devoted mother's love!

Luckily a very short book, I was very happy when it was over. It wasn't clear to me what the author intended to tell: The fact that mothers really do everything for the welfare of their child has been much better staged numerous times.
The narration was annoying: I have rarely had to struggle through such a bored performance.

When Lydia was a teenager, she made a decision that ruined her family's life. They've spent the last 30 years living with the consequences and doing their best to pretend it never happened. Lydia's husband, the gorgeous and reliable Mark, and her two teenage children know nothing about that summer back in 1982. And that's the way Lydia wants it to stay. The opportunity to come clean is long gone, and now it's not the lie that matters; it's the betrayal of hiding the truth for so long.

I found the story interesting because it is actually about a completely dysfunctional family. The child, here a 13-year-old teenage girl makes a mistake, the father - a teacher!!! - can't handle it and beats up a student, the mother stages new identities and directs everyone's life the next 30 years. But then chance reveals old lies and truths, and the child finally has the opportunity to take her fate into her own hands.
With very few exceptions basically a very well staged story, good pace, exciting till the end. The narrator is doing an excellent job.

Lucy and Owen, ambitious, thoroughly-therapized New Yorkers, have taken the plunge, trading in their crazy life in a cramped apartment for Beekman, a bucolic Hudson Valley exurb. They've got a 200-year-old house, an autistic son obsessed with the Titanic whose verbal ticks often sound like a broken record, and 17 chickens, at last count.

Lucy's and Owen's decision to give their marriage some impetus through a 6-month fidelity break was initially very irritating because it seemed too constructed. But after this bumpy start the story picked up momentum. The plot primarily revolves around the two of them but also picks up on numerous plot lines with side characters. The morale is constantly pretty low, on the one hand because of the challenges that Wyatt poses and on the other hand because of stupid decisions made by different characters. Nevertheless, the author knows how to keep the listener at bay and it didn't take me much effort to stay till the very end.
One part of it was for sure the very good speaker.

Being a sentient spaceship really should be more fun. But after spreading out through space for almost a century, Bob and his clones just can't stay out of trouble. They've created enough colonies so humanity shouldn't go extinct. But political squabbles have a bad habit of dying hard, and the Brazilian probes are still trying to take out the competition. And the Bobs have picked a fight with an older, more powerful species with a large appetite and a short temper.

The third book concludes this outstanding series. Of course, my expectations were high and the author did not disappoint me. The older Bobs become astonishingly emotional while the later generations start leaving the human side behind. In any case, the author brings in some new approaches, but he never becomes a teacher, and the whole thing is packed into a wonderfully exciting story. It's a pity that Bob’s voyage is over but I got the feeling that after the last chapter the journey actually ended positively.
As in the last two books, the narrator was a class of his own!

Three years into a five-year marriage of convenience, Jenn finds herself wanting something she never thought she'd want from her laid-back, ex-military husband. Sex - as a much-needed release of tension from her high-stress job. But weekly sex with Nick, despite their careful parameters, is likely to get messy eventually.

The story is nothing exciting: For three years their marriage is just one on paper but then they discover things about themselves and about the other which let’s them start sleeping with each other. And of course they fall in love with each other and all is well in the end. The female character was quite an irritating person, the male hero was patient and could be trusted.
    The narration was OK.

Bob Johansson didn't believe in an afterlife, so waking up after being killed in a car accident was a shock. To add to the surprise, he is now a sentient computer and the controlling intelligence for a Von Neumann probe.

There are more and more Bobs but the author did a good job on focusing on a few of them and create interesting stories of various kinds about them. There is hard science paired with emotional moments, first contact scenarios with different outcomes and battles in outer space. Looking forward to the final book.
Again, the narration is outstanding and definitely adds to the experience.

A little too much wisdom for my taste in a short story. While the connection between the three characters is very well worked out, the content of their conversations and train of thoughts was a bit too exaggerated for me. More unsaid and vague would have been better for the book's lasting impression.
    The narrator was average.

Marcia Johnson always assumed her husband would follow her eventually. She'd achieve success while she waited and prove her decision the right one. But when he finally turns up, she's not ready. Her career hangs in the balance, and her weight has skyrocketed. How can she face the man she loves and show him she made the right choice? Especially when he's matured from a decent-looking college student into the sexiest man she's ever seen.

This is a quick listen, hence there is not much introduction to characters or a plot. It’s about a married couple who have grown apart in pursuing their respective careers and then they meet after years of separation for business. I found the female character way too insecure and the male one was just alpha. This is not what marriage / relationships is about, so overall I could not connect with the characters.
The narration was OK but nothing outstanding.

Bob Johansson has just sold his software company and is looking forward to a life of leisure. There are places to go, books to read, and movies to watch. So it's a little unfair when he gets himself killed crossing the street. Bob wakes up a century later to find that corpsicles have been declared to be without rights, and he is now the property of the state. He has been uploaded into computer hardware and is slated to be the controlling AI in an interstellar probe looking for habitable planets.

Very entertaining sci-fi novel which lives on numerous references from the Star Trek universe but is nevertheless original. I enjoyed accompanying the lovable main character on his journey through the universe.
The number of Bobs towards the end bears the risk of confusion but thanks to an outstanding narration one can easily follow the story. I'll get the next book!

I haven’t listened to such a gripping story for a long time! I could not believe it was a first work. The story is very well arranged and follows a common thread, despite its complexity. The plot is thrilling, there are funny bits, there are sad passages, and I was fully engrossed till the very end. It is a dystopia, but one with very real references, and that has made me thoughtful.
I can recommend this book to anyone looking for the human component in sci-fi.
The narrator is excellent and transforms an extraordinary story to a great listening experience.
