"A Winner. Captivating from beginning to end."
I downloaded this book mainly for my almost teenage son because it was written by a young man not much older than he is. I decided to go ahead and "screen" it first on my 2 hour daily commute and absolutely enjoyed it immensely. It is written in a simple, straightforward way and is filled with plenty of action and adventure. Besides "Envy", this is the other of my 2 favorite audiobooks I have listened to on audible so far. I can't wait for the next one in the trilogy.
Download this book. It is masterful storytelling. You won't be disappointed!
"Good, but a little monotonous and boring at times"
I found that I was reviewing books I thought were excellent (envy, eragon) but were not being critical of books I thought were bad or so,so or just O.K. Well, this book was good, bordering on O.K. I tend to kind of judge a book by how much I want to keep listenening to it. In other words, if it's one of those books you can't put down. With envy or eragon, I couldn't wait to listen to more. With this book, I started listening to other books and picked back up on this one off and on. Don't get me wrong, it's not "bad", it just didn't hold my interest as well as some others. It was, in the end however, a memorable book, just not one I would put at the top of my list.
"GET THIS BOOK!!!!"
I have read and listened to quite a few books from all kinds of genere's. This is absolustely one of if not the best book I have ever listened too. I'm afraid to get anything else by sandra brown (or almost anyone else now) cause I don't know how she (or anyone else) could EVER top this book. It grabs you from the beginning and doesn't let go. Even till the end. I honestly can say that I DID NOT WANT THIS BOOK TO END. I can also actually say that I loved this book. And I have never said that before about a book. If you are debating on downloading this book, DON'T!!! It will surely be one of the best you ever listen to. This is my first Sandra Brown book, and I have to say, she is at the top of my favorite author list already!!! Now, YOU QUIT READING THESE REVIEWS AND GO DOWNLOAD THIS BOOK!!!
"One of his best"
I was reluctant at first to download a 21 hour book first narrarated by steven king but also because I had just read the "the gunslinger" and had not enjoyed it that much. Don't know why. Anyway, I wasn't going to read the rest of the dark tower series if I didn't like the first book. So, I read the comments and ratings for bag of bones, which were very good, and decided I'd give it a try.
Boy! Was I glad I did! This has got to be one of King's best. I really enjoyed the story and he slowly walks you down a path where reality and fantasy and horror all come togehter in the end but at just the right speed.
At first I didn't like King's funny voice. I had just listened to "the company--excellent!!--with scott brick as narrator (he's great)so Steven's voice was a "switch". At first it sounded kind of on the unpolished, droning side. But once I got use to it and his inflection and maybe he too got warmed up as the book progressed, I got to really like it. I couldn't imagine anybody else reading this book.
If you're teetering on this one, DON'T. Download this one. It's well worth the listen. It has all the elements, wife loved, lost, new girl, bad guy(s), kids, comedy, and scary parts. He did great. They need to make a movie out of this one too.
"Long, but worth it"
I have to be honest. It took me a while to get oriented and then get into this book. First you have to realize you are starting way back when, and then you're jumping around from one character to the next. BUT! after I started getting all the characters, and scenes, and all that differentiated, I really, enjoyed the book. I have also listened to about 7 or 8 other books and realize now, how good the narrarator SCOTT BRICK is. I started listing the other books that he has done and will consider listening to those because of him. His inflection and capabilities with accents, especially russian and german are very good. Don't be deterred by the length of this book. But, leave yourself enough time to get into the book also. It took me about 7 or 8 hours before I couldn't stop listening to it.
"Before I knew it, It had me pulled in"
I'm not a big sci-fi person. And I was not sure about listening to a book that sounded like it was going to be about a kids game. But I got sucked in. The hours went by faster than I expected and before you know it, i had identified with the characters and it ended. The ending took me by suprise. I didn't really see it coming. No more on that.
If you are debating about this book, then take it from a really non-sci fi person. You'll probably enjoy it a lot more than you thought you would, and you'll be sad to see ender and valentine go.
I'm probably going to read another sci-fi because of this book.
