It is a beautiful book. - dark, honest and powerfully raw. The narrator's performance is extraordinary.
This author has numerous characters, each exceedingly well developed & authentic, whose lives interact in a real and compelling way. The performer is outstanding – well worth the listen.
The only thing good about this audio book is Scott Brick - there is a plot so bad I saw the ending 1 hour into the listen, and thought "oh no, he wouldn't do that" but he did.
As we've come to expect, Connelly writes another winner. Jake is as lovable & flawed as ever, the story challenging yet believable and the pace fantastic. Great read ~ and the performance is excellent.
Sometimes 'listening' to non-fiction is very difficult but this performance was excellent and while it is a complex book the story is so well constructed and the performance so strong it is an outstanding listen. Worth every minute - I intend to buy the physical book as well, it is that important.
I like the complex story line of the book, as well as the interwoven characters. The ending was a bit weak, but it didn't spoil the otherwise delightful read.
Grisham just gets better - he creates characters we care about, in intriguing situations and with the audio book we get the benefit of a great performance. I will say his endings are still weak but better than his earlier books. A great read ~ !
This is a very good history - I think it is worth the time for anyone interested in WWII history.
I was disappointed by the last Longmire book, but this one is back to the high-quality of the prior books. Great character maturation, tight believable story and as always, the performance of George Guidall is fantastic.
I think Caroline Lee is a fantastic performer - she is a significant contribution to every book I've heard her perform.
As to this book - I love the complex story and overlapping lives of the well-developed characters. And then the 'secret' was disclosed & I almost stopped listening but I encourage you to keep going - the end weaves it together in a way that makes it very satisfying.
Well work the read.
Indeed an editor would have helped but it is still worth the read. While the first 1/3 is far too detailed with unimportant data, the last 2/3 is detailed with interesting although not critical data.
The performance is at best a "C", but the quality of the recording is very poor; I'd say a D-. When they splice in corrections both the volume and tone change dramatically, which in some .parts is very distracting.
Overall - if you like history it is worth the read.
