Opening night at New York's New Globe Theater turns from stage scene to crime scene when the leading man is stabbed to death center stage. Now Eve Dallas has a high profile, celebrity homicide on her hands. Not only is she lead detective, she's also a witness - and when the press discovers that her husband owns the theater, there's more media spotlight than either can handle.

Unlike a number of reviewers, I throughly enjoy Susan Erickson's reading of the IN DEATH books. It may be because Net Library has the first 2 or 3 books in audio format read by someone else. No life in the characters with the other reader, could not tell Roarke was Irish, the intire reading was dull. Not so with Susan Erickson, especially with Eve..

Witness in Death stays with the In Death program. We learn more about the characters and get to solve a mystery. Like all formula books, the reader or listener knows what to expect, knows Eve, with Roarke and the others help, will catch the murderer and peace will reign until the next book. Works for me. I've read them all, now listening to them all and enjoying every moment.

Prizefighter tough. Street-hustler smart. Pit-bull vicious. Longshoremen’s union leader Charlie Vitteli is like a cold-blooded villain straight out of Shakespeare’s Macbeth. Busting heads on the docks of New York as a brash union organizer, taking no prisoners as the newest president of the North American Brotherhood of Stevedores, Vitteli clawed his way to the top of the heap - and no one’s going to take him down now. Not if they value their lives.

Would you try another book from Robert K. Tanenbaum and/or Bob Walter?

I've listened to Tanenbaum for a long while, usually enjoy his books.. but the new reader in this series is not for me.. I realize there hasn't been a consistent reader for this series, but with this reader there is barely a pause between characters, paragraphs... and no life in most of the characters. A disapointment

What could Robert K. Tanenbaum have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?

    different reader.. tanenbaum was fine.

Would you be willing to try another one of Bob Walter’s performances?

    Not really..

At exactly 7:30 p.m., Walter Pettibone arrived home to over a hundred friends and family shouting, "surprise!" It was his birthday. Although he had known about the planned event for weeks, the real surprise was yet to come. At 8:45 p.m., a woman with emerald eyes and red hair handed him a glass of champagne. One sip of birthday bubbly, and he was dead.

Would you consider the audio edition of Reunion in Death to be better than the print version?

Love Susan Ericksen's narration! This is a re-recording of one of the first audio books in the series (no, they weren't done in order) and the voices of the characters are what we've grown to know and love.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Eve, of course. Why, because she's Eve Dallas.

What about Susan Ericksen’s performance did you like?

    Everything! She's very good.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

The hotels in Dallas.. the upgraded one from her childhood, and Roarke's.

    Any additional comments?

I heard a year ago Susan Ericksen was going to re-record a number of the earliest recorded books, I think starting with Seduction, saying when the recording started, the characters were new to her and didn't know them as well. So good to see the releases are now coming.. Seduction, Reunion, Purity and now Portrait. Good move Brilliance audio!!

Jack Ryan has only just moved back into the Oval Office when he is faced with a new international threat. An aborted coup in the People's Republic of China has left President Wei Zhen Lin with no choice but to agree with the expansionist policies of General Su Ke Quiang. They have declared the South China Sea a protectorate and are planning an invasion of Taiwan. The Ryan administration is determined to thwart China’s ambitions, but the stakes are dangerously high as a new breed of powerful Chinese anti-ship missiles endanger the US Navy's plans to protect the island.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

I can't say, the story may be good, but see the headline

Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Lou Diamond Phillips?

Not sure who I would have cast, but if a listener has the problem I have.... listening to a narrator inhale at the start of every sentence... and it puts them off.... I can't recommend listening to the book. Read it in print

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

No, couldn't get past the sound of LDP inhaling

    Any additional comments?

As much as I respect and enjoy LDP as an actor, I will never "buy" another book with him as the narrator.
