Elorie Shaw, steeped in the traditions of the Nova Scotia witching community, but not a witch. The fetching spell must have goofed this time... or did it? Travel to Fisher's Cove, Nova Scotia, where Moira is matriarch and the old ways are nurtured and passed to the next generation. Where a crotchety old witch makes small children cry and builds walls around the silent pain in his heart. And where Elorie - sea-glass artist, inn owner, and Moira's granddaughter - makes her home.

I defy anyone to read one of Debora Geary's books and not become emotional involved.

For those who only read books that rely on sex scene after sex scene, Neanderthal misunderstood males, someone doing something stupid in the last 1/3 -1/4 of the book to allow said Neanderthal a chance to save the day allowing for love to suddenly bloom and books with stereotype characters.

    Debora Geary's books are probably not for you . . . .

If however you love wonderful stories with rich diverse characters and where your heart, soul and tissues get a regular workout . . . you will find your self not wanting to put her books down . . . .

I cannot recommend this author highly enough to anyone even if the paranormal is not your normal fare . . .

The narrator does an excellent job and one hopes she is retained for for the whole series.

I would also like to see Debora's books other series given audible format treatment e.g. WitchLight, Novel Nibbles and Witch Central

Nice idea but never feed a dog chicken, the bones are to brittle and really, feeding any cooked bone to your dog is dangerous because cooked bones may splinter and damage the stomach and intestines. Raw bones do not normally splinter and are thus preferred

When Prudence Alessandra Maccon Akeldama ("Rue" to her friends) is bequeathed an unexpected dirigible, she does what any sensible female under similar circumstances would do: she christens it the Spotted Custard and floats off to India. Soon she stumbles upon a plot involving local dissidents, a kidnapped brigadier's wife, and some awfully familiar Scottish werewolves.

It's going to take awhile, if ever to get used to narrator. Whilst Ms Quirk did an excellent job with the Finishing School series, this series I feel would have been better served using Ms Gray from the original series, as this is basically continuing on from Parasol where Finishing School was a an earlier side step with some of the original character in earlier lives and in most cases smaller roles

It's just that characters we know and love have a different vioce interpretation . . . it's not bad narration just not what we are used to

I remember reading this many years ago, now it being released to audio and i am very grateful - first because its a great series and second because even with Modsitt's audio ramblings during his books and the length, it's well executed and narrated.

i would recommend this book and hopefully this series to all who like epic well written fantasy.

One hopes they keep the Narrator

NASA discovered the alien ship lurking in the asteroid belt in the 1960's. They kept the Target under intense surveillance for decades, letting the public believe they were exploring the solar system, while they worked feverishly to refine the technology needed to reach it. Dr. Jane Holloway is content documenting nearly-extinct languages and had never contemplated becoming an astronaut. But when NASA recruits her to join a team of military scientists for an expedition to the Target, it's an adventure she can't refuse.

A lot of good ideas with some some a bit too far fetched but still believable within the story.

A must read for any science fiction / fantasy fan

A good narrator seals a excellent package

Excellent spin on the supernatural world - just be aware that there are some very descriptive sex scenes (although they don't take over the book like some authors) and use of colourful language, (again it exists but there are must worse out there) so if such things put you off then this book is probably not for you. which would be a pity as it well worth the purchase and listen.

    The narrator is excellent

Does one need four fully-grown foxgloves for decorating a dinner table for six guests? Or is it six foxgloves to kill four fully-grown guests? Sophronia's first year at school has certainly been rousing. First, her finishing school is training her to be a spy. (Won't Mumsy be surprised!) Secondly, she gets mixed up in an intrigue over a stolen device and has a cheese pie thrown at her.

Another great Steampunk romp from Gail Carrier with an excellent narration from Moira Quirk.

This is the second in this series set before the timeline of the excellent Parasol Protectorate series. it even includes younger versions of some of the characters or their relations from the original series. Whilst the technology is earlier there is a definite Steampunk vibe to the story arc and of course the same supernatural races are woven into the tale.

The story is told in Ms Carriger's irreverent tongue firmly in cheek style of her earlier series and whilst listed as YA it will most definitely appeal to those who love Steampunk and or her earlier series no matter what their age . . .

    enjoy

Olivia Kiskey needs a change. She’s been working at the same Nodaway Falls, New York, waffle house since she was a teenager; not a lot of upward mobility there. She’s been in love with Tobias, the cook, for the last four years; he's never made a move. Intent on shaking things up, Olivia puts her house on the market, buys a one-way ticket to Europe, and announces her plans to her friends - but then she meets Davina Granville, a strange and mystical Southern woman....

    Story

The "heroine" causes 90% of the problems & deaths, in this book and I can't remember the last time i wished for a main character to die quickly, save lives and put us all out of our misery. She "never" appears to learn & she causes more pain and death to her friends because basically she appears to be too stupid to live. She even admits her stupidity several times during the book.

Amanda does a wonderful job with the narration but even she is hard put to save this book.

The plot has promise but Olivia Kiskey (the Heroine) is so clueless to reality she causes harm, damage and death all around her, supposedly in the guise of "doing the right thing", she is the kind of friend who makes it superfluous to have enemies

It all begins on one of the worst days of Lily's life. She just lost the London leg of the 1823 Airship Grand Prix. To top it off, a harlequin fleeing from constables shoved a kaleidoscope down her pants, told her to fly to Venice, then threw himself from her airship tower. What's a girl to do? For Lily, the answer is easy: Drink absinthe and smoke opium.

    Story

The story is listed under fantasy and as Steampunk, but would be better listed under erotica.

The excessive descriptions/use of sex, "colourful" language, drug taking, deviant sexual behavior and alcoholic binges, could be somewhat excused by the early life of the "heroine" but such things need not become most of the book. they could have be described once and then eluded to instead of becoming most of the books bulk and story.

The narrator is the only real saving grace and in-spite of the material does an excellent job.

I wont go into plot spoilers but instead would like to use this review as a warning for those who are looking for a Steampunk Fantasy rather than an erotic one, because i don't think you will like this book, which is a shame as decent Steampunk fantasies are few and far between especially in Audiobook format.

If however erotica, with heaps of helpings of drug and other abuse is your thing . . .enjoy

I don't consider myself a prude but I require a reasonable cohesive plot with such stories before they interest me in anyway and such devices should be used as a means to grow the characters and the world they inhabit or at least used with skill not as a bludgeon and constant shock or page fillers because after a short time such stories and devices have no real value other than to fill space.

This review is solely my own interpretation and will obviously not agree with that of others, I just hope it helps some in evaluating this book under the category it is listed as
