An iconic figure in the history of rock and pop culture (inducted not once but twice into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame), Neil Young has written his eagerly awaited memoir. Young offers a kaleidoscopic view of his personal life and musical career, spanning his time in bands like Buffalo Springfield, Crosby, Stills & Nash and Crazy Horse; moving from the snows of Ontario through the LSD-laden boulevards of 1966 Los Angeles to the contemplative paradise of Hawaii today.

I had high hopes for this book, and had considered buying it for my son for Christmas, but didn't get around to it. So I picked up the audio version. But I hard as I tried and as much as I wanted to like this book, there just wasn't a lot of substance, at least in the first third, after which I just gave up. A recounting of my everyday activities would have been just about the same as this, so...

In 1930, two novice paddlers - Eric Sevareid and Walter C. Port - launched a secondhand 18-foot canvas canoe from the Minnesota River at Fort Snelling for an ambitious summer-long journey from Minneapolis to Hudson Bay. Without benefit of radio, motor or good maps, the teenagers made their way over 2,250 miles of rivers, lakes, and difficult portages.

I didn't know what to expect when I found this one, but it turned out to be a fantastic story, well written, trailblazing story by a couple of teenages, one of who was Eric Sevareid. An astonishing story.

2057. Humanity has raised exploiting the solar system to an art form. Bella Lind and the crew of her nuclear-powered ship, the Rockhopper, push ice. They mine comets. And they're good at it. The Rockhopper is nearing the end of its current mission cycle, and everyone is desperate for some much-needed R & R, when startling news arrives from Saturn: Janus, one of Saturn's ice moons, has inexplicably left its natural orbit and is now heading out of the solar system at high speed.

The original concept was pretty interesting, but it never got fully developed, at least before I gave up. Things would be developing along nicely, and then all of a sudden it would be ages later and there were all sorts of stuff that just went away, with only a cursory mention.

It went on this way for so long, I finally gave up after about 2/3's of the way through.

In American on Purpose, Craig Ferguson delivers a moving and achingly funny memoir of living the American dream as he journeys from the mean streets of Glasgow, Scotland, to the comedic promised land of Hollywood. Along the way he stumbles through several attempts to make his mark - as a punk rock musician, a construction worker, a bouncer, and, tragically, a modern dancer.

If you like Craig Fuguson, you'll love this book. It gives a good insight about his evolution, and what it takes to be a comedian and writer.

Mikael Blomkvist, crusading journalist and publisher of the magazine Millennium, has decided to publish a story exposing an extensive sex trafficking operation between Eastern Europe and Sweden, implicating well-known and highly placed members of Swedish society, business, and government. On the eve of publication, the two reporters responsible for the story are brutally murdered.

Would you listen to The Girl Who Played with Fire again? Why?

This, I thought, was the best of the three book series. It was hard to stop listening.

Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?

The plot in the first book was the most complicated, and interesting, but this second book held my attention above the other two.
