    Gripping, complex, Unique

    Which scene was your favorite?

My favorite scene was when all the Chinese citizens march on their capital cities and the top ranking politicians realize they cannot deal with two fronts.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

China has just declared war on the United States

Court Gentry is known as The Gray Man - a legend in the covert realm, moving silently from job to job, accomplishing the impossible, and then fading away. And he always hits his target. But there are forces more lethal than Gentry in the world. And in their eyes, Gentry has just outlived his usefulness. Now, he is going to prove that for him, there's no gray area between killing for a living-and killing to stay alive.

Would you consider the audio edition of The Gray Man to be better than the print version?

Yes. Jay Snyder did an excellent job with all the myriad characters and accents. I would not get that in a printed version.

Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?

It was hard to turn off - the action never stopped and I was riveted to the story the whole time.

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

It was not time well spent. I had to listen to the entire first segment for it to even become interesting.

What was the most interesting aspect of this story? The least interesting?

The most interesting aspect was what was the real reason for the plane crash; who did and why. The least interesting was Sydney's antagonists.

Would you be willing to try another one of Jonathan Marosz’s performances?

NO! It was one dimensional and uninspiring. Very wooden delivery.

Could you see Total Control being made into a movie or a TV series? Who should the stars be?

Not really - well, maybe made for TV movie.

    Any additional comments?

Baldacci has never disappointed until now. Granted, this was a a very outdated book. Technology described was state of the art in its day, but quite anachronistic today.

The four dead guards didn’t concern Mitch Rapp as much as the absence of the man they’d been paid to protect. Joe Rickman wasn’t just another foot soldier. For the last eight years Rickman had ran the CIA’s clandestine operations in Afghanistan. It was a murky job that involved working with virtually every disreputable figure in the Islamic Republic. More than a quarter billion dollars in cash had passed through Rickman’s hands during his tenure as the master of black ops and no one with a shred of sense wanted to know the details of how that money had been spent.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes, I would recommend. It is full of drama and thorough character study and keeps you engaged through out.

What did you like best about this story?

Mitch is constantly under seige - both domestically and by foreign countries. When things look darkest, he prevails. But this is not just a story about Mitch - it is also about Irene Kennedy - and their partnership is a study in contrasts. Mitch could not be Mitch without Irene.

What about George Guidall’s performance did you like?

I am a big admirer of George Guidall's reading. His characterizations are nuanced and distinct. He does not make the mistake of over modulating or using falsetto for his characters, nor does his accents over the top. He is one of my favorites.

I have to agree with the other reviewers. I knew who did it within 1 hour, the characters were flat, and the narrator was uni-dimensional and unimpressive. The production quality was poor and you could tell when they spliced in a correction.

    Very Disappointed!!

P.S. I listen often in bed and it definitely helped me fall asleep quickly.

This had to be one of the most plodding and simplistic books I've listened to in quite some time. As another poster asked, "And I paid for this?" nails my feelings on the head. I was listening to it the other day and realized I had fallen asleep!

I felt the characterizations were one-dimensional and poorly developed. The author telegraphed every thing that occurred in book and just fell flat. I will not be ordering any more in the series.

I kept trying to get into the characters and their worlds, but had some dissonance with the beginning. Things started picking up and making more sense in the middle, and the last 10 chapters had me riveted. I just downloaded the 2nd book and am looking forward to learning more about the fate of the beings in the spiral arm.

The crash of a Dallas-bound jet wasn't just a tragedy to TV reporter Avery Daniels; it was an act of fate that handed her a golden opportunity to further her career. Mistaken for a glamorous, selfish woman named Carole Rutledge, the badly injured Avery would find that plastic surgery had given her Carole's face, a famous senatorial candidate for a husband, and a powerful Texas dynasty for in-laws.

San I Am says: "A light read"
    "Engaging Story, Novel Plot"
    Overall

I enjoyed this book quite a bit. It made you think about what a family knows and the secrets they keep, and how to keep your own.

I liked the tension between Avery/Carole and Tate. It kept the story interesting.

I liked Dick Hill's narration for the most part, but I prefer his work on Harry Bosch novels. This novel would have been more engaging with a good female reader.

Lucas Davenport has had disturbing cases before - but never one quite like this, in the shocking new Prey work from the #1 New York Times best-selling author.

Maura Smith-Mitsky says: "Get off Richard Ferrone's back!"
    "Tedious and Poor Narration"
    Overall

I am a huge fan of the Prey Novels, but Ferrone's monotone and one-dimensional narration ruined it for me. He has absolutely no idea how to perform a female character and the "Fairy" characterization was whiny and irritating - he had no idea how to sound like a Valley Girl. It was so off-putting, that my spouse will not listen to it. If I could ask for a refund, I would.

It's a shame, because the story itself was engaging. Buy the paperback book, don't listen to it.
