Posed with astonishing understanding and compassion, these questions power a novel rich with characters and events, both comic and harrowing, revelatory about not only New York after the attacks but also the toll taken on those lucky enough to have survived them. Wise, surprising, and, ultimately, heart-stoppingly redemptive, The Good Life captures lives that allow us to see, through personal, social, and moral complexity, more clearly into the heart of things.

    "Great book and great narration"
    Overall

Jay McInerney captures the New York scene post 9/11 with great insight. He seems to know the city and its characters and portrays them with great accuracy. Enjoyed the book a great deal and also enjoyed the narration.

A 12-year-old girl and her younger brother go on the run in the woods of northern Idaho, pursued by four men they have just watched commit murder - four men who know exactly who the children are, and where their desperate mother is waiting patiently by the phone for news of her children's fate.

    Holly Helscher says: "Interesting Mystery"
    "A disappointment"
    Overall

I was expecting a lot more from the Edgar Award winner of 2009. This book was childishly written and read like a cartoon. Very disappointing. The competition must have been pretty weak in 2009 for the Edgar Award. This is not an award winning book.

The snow in the mountains was melting and Bunny had been dead for several weeks before we came to understand the gravity of our situation.

KP says: "Read this, don't listen"
    "Tough one to get through."
    Overall

The author is a terrible reader. It was a constant challenge to remember that the main character was supposed to be a young man. Listening to Donna Tartt read this book drove me crazy and I finished it only because a friend had recommended the book and I wanted to get to the end of it. It was an overlong story about a group of drug addicted alcoholics.

But she isn't a maid, and she's not Mexican.

    David says: "Anxiously Awaited"
    "What a bore!"
    Overall

Billed as novel of suspense. What a joke. No suspense. No interest. Boring. Tedious. Nothing happens. Tired of 2 and 3 word sentences.
