"Well done!"
The saga takes you in and doesn't let go. Very well written and narrated. I will buy more from this author and narrator.
"SLOW and tedious to be sure..."
I really love long books but not when they move so s-lo-w-ly that you are in agony just trying to get thru them! The female narrator reads exceptionally slowly making what is already boring even worse.
In conversations between characters the person replying repeats what the other person just said. (This happens over and over through out the book!)
The idea behind the book sounded good so I thought I would give it a try but I certainly wouldn't recommend it to anyone!
"Not as juicy as I had hoped"
I love all of the characters and the narrator can't be beat but... the stories are wearing a bit thin. Maybe not enough Ranger in this one...
"Loved the movie...disappointed in the book"
In my experience the book is ALWAYS better than the movie... except for this time! I've read other books by Fannie Flagg and was entertained by them as I was somewhat entertained by this one. The movie is one of my all time favorites so I really didn't think I could go wrong with the purchase. The book was acceptable but not exceptional. I was also unimpressed by the narrator. I guess after Jessica Tandy, (the main narrator in the movie), ANYONE would be a disappointment! If you've never seen the movie you will probably love the book.. but I would suggest you see the movie.
"Beautiful! Moving!"
A thought provoking story of what the afghan women (and people) have gone through. The "Joy Luck Club" of afghanistan. The story brought me to tears. Beautifully written and well narrated.
"REALLY? or should I say Rielle....?"
I am not sure that I believe Rielle's account as factual....but you never know. One thing is certain, a child is in this world because of two people and she deserves the best, no matter how she got here. I've never been into politics but I was interested in the story so I bought the book and it was good enough. I can't wait 'til someone writes one about Mark Sanford (ex-governor of SC)! It's like watching a train wreck...you can't help it.
"One of the best suspense thrillers EVER!"
One of the best books ever written, read by a master narrator! What more could you ask for? Although Frank Muller is no longer alive he will always be one of my favorite narrators. I highly recommend this book and all others read by him (i.e. Shawshank Redemtion, The Green Mile, etc.. . But, Thomas Harris AND Frank Muller, you can't go wrong with this one.
"Delightful diversion!"
Very enjoyable, well written but light and fun. The narrator is perfect. If you are looking for a book that entertains without bringing you to tears or making you think too much about all the troubles of this world... I suggest you escape with this one. I look forward to more from this author and narrator.
"Zippy!"
I listened to "She got up off the couch" first. Absolutely loved it! Haven Kimmel is an excellent author and the perfect narrator. Zippy is not quite as good as the second book but still a really wonderful book. If you were a kid in the 70's you will probably love this book.
"Not so wicked.."
I have been a big fan of the Stephanie Plum series for many years and I consider Lorelei King one of the finest narrators I've ever heard. I read Wicked Appetite in written form and enjoyed that very much so I was really looking forward to this book. Unfortunately I found it to be a disappointment. This book just doesn't have the fun and excitement of the Plum series or the first book in this series. Carl, (the monkey), was fun in the first book but seems somewhat slow and stupid in this one. Maybe because I read the first and listened to the second? Worth listening to anyway, if only because of the reader.
