With an internment camp just about 60 miles away from us in Arkansas, and the history of it so familiar here, this was a special treat to us. We loved this novel because it opened the lives up in the history of places like this. A great story and slightly different from some of her other novels...this one was close to home in time and geography, and also in comparison to issues today with cultural stigmas.

I listened to this audible book in 2003. It was probably my fifth book to listen to, and it became one of my all time favorites. The pace is surprisingly great with a tension line that runs throughout the development of the characters in that big open sea. Great.

The tiger was my favorite character. He was so central to the story movement.

I did cry. Tears came to my eyes at the end of the book, not at any particular moment, just a gratefulness for the deepness of the story.

This was our first Sandra Dallas novel, and what a good one to discover her with. This time and place was and especially poignant place to depict the development--from scratch--of a rich relationship being built piece by piece. We loved it and have listened to more of her works. Great story.

This was especially great...our second Sandra Dallas, and we loved it. The relationship between the characters was the star here, and that is what we like...not so much the characters themselves, but the connections. Well, saying that, I now think back on Prayers for Sale....the same solid substance was there too, the building of a strong and rich relationship among the events and the times and the culture of the story.

Liked this novel...just right on for southern Mississippi. I guess our familiarity with the issues, the time, the culture made this such a winner for us. We will listen to more....

We loved Sandra Dallas when we discovered her with Prayers for Sale. Then Tall Grass...both exceptional in our opinion. This one was okay...we liked the unfolding of the character's secrets...but they opened up so gradually we failed to feel the "grab" we felt in the other novels. But, worth listening to. It was harder to place this in the historic timeframe for me also...

We've been listening for a while. This rates up among our favorites....we like the first person narrative and Jeannette Walls' voice is right on target, as is her soul in this history of her grandmother and mother. We loved the book and have purchased and downloaded The Glass Castle also.

I read this as a teenager and I loved it then...to hear now Bradbury read and comment between chapters was a wonderful experience...nostalgia blended with discovery. I recommend this to any sci fi reader or anyone else, for that matter. Thoroughly loved this listening.
