Captain Ivan Vorpatril is happy with his relatively uneventful bachelor's life as a staff officer to a Barrayaran admiral. Cousin to imperial troubleshooter Miles Vorkosigan, Ivan is not far down the hereditary list for the emperorship. Thankfully, new heirs have directed that headache elsewhere, leaving Ivan to enjoy his life on Komarr, far from the Byzantine court politics of his home system. But when an old friend in Barrayaran intelligence asks Ivan to protect an attractive young woman who may be on the hit list of a criminal syndicate, his chivalrous nature takes over. It seems danger and adventure have once more found Captain Vorpatril.

Barbara M. Sullivan says: "We are finally allowed to see Ivan without Miles."

If you could sum up Captain Vorpatril's Alliance in three words, what would they be?

    Funny, engrossing, satisfying

Who was your favorite character and why?

Ivan, of course, the protagonist, but the supporting cast was wonderfully creative and well realized, and it was fun to see By again, especially in a more fully formed character.

What does Grover Gardner bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

I love being read to, and he does a wonderful job of voicing multiple characters

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

    many

    Any additional comments?

If you haven't read or listened to Bujold's Vorkosegan series I envy you, because you can enjoy them for the first time, while I am on my 2nd, 3rd or even 4th or 5th time (and I still love the series). Ivan has ben a supporting player since the 2nd book (?second half of the first book, depending on how you look at it), and it was fun to see him as the subject of his own story. Like his mother, many of us wondered if he would ever get married--or meet his match--this was a very satisfying end to that story arc.

At once wildly original and stuffed with irresistible nostalgia, Ready Player One is a spectacularly genre-busting, ambitious, and charming debut—part quest novel, part love story, and part virtual space opera set in a universe where spell-slinging mages battle giant Japanese robots, entire planets are inspired by Blade Runner, and flying DeLoreans achieve light speed.

What did you love best about Ready Player One?

I have never written a review before, but I really liked this book and wanted to encourage others to try it. If you grew up in or even just lived thru the 80's, you have to read this book. Great story, characters, and performance.

But they have made some deadly enemies, and Miles realizes he's in trouble again. First the Mercenaries' payroll doesn't arrive on time; then someone tries to murder him. Would you consider the audio edition of Brothers in Arms to be better than the print version?

I love Bujolds work, especially the Vorkosagan series, and audio or read, the books are superior. I enjoy being read to, and listen mostly while driving, so they are a little like apples and oranges to compare--just get them any way you can.
