I am a college student and busy mama. I am also a huge Orson Scott Card and Neil Gaiman fan. I enjoy anything science fiction or science fact based.

The mining ship El Cavador is far out from Earth, in the deeps of the Kuiper Belt, beyond Pluto. Other mining ships, and the families that live on them, are few and far between this far out. So when El Cavador’s telescopes pick up a fast-moving object coming in-system, it’s hard to know what to make of it. It’s massive and moving at a significant fraction of the speed of light.

El Cavador has other problems. Their systems are old and failing. The family is getting too big for the ship. There are claim-jumping corporate ships bringing Asteroid Belt tactics to the Kuiper Belt.

Would you consider the audio edition of Earth Unaware to be better than the print version?

As a college student who has a never ending stack of textbooks to read, the audio version is very convenient. It allows me to be able to listen to my favorite books while giving my eyes a much needed rest.

What did you like best about this story?

Orson Scott Card has a unique way of writing that puts you directly in the characters situation. The main character, Victor, is much like Ender in his selflessness and maturity beyond his years. The details of space and all of the thought put into the tech necessary to sustain life and communication is just astonishing.

What does the narrators bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

The narrators really brought the story to life. It gave a voice to the character without infringing on your ability to use your imagination.
