It took Reacher over 10 hours in this audio before he started to defending himself. This became very irritating after awhile. Parts of the plot were just not credible enough i.e. A person on the way to blow up people, the good guys know of four possible cities for the bomb, yet they tell no one so they can get assistance looking in all all locations but instead they guess where he's going. That's irresponsable and really stupid!
Yes with a lot of caveats.
The story was good and compelled me to spend the time to finish it but it took so long for the good guys to start fighting back, the book was actually putting me in a bad mood. I really like Jack Reachers character but I am not sure I want to read more in the series.
For me anytime Lincoln Child and Douglas Preston collaborate on a story, its always good. This book is no exception. I think the few negative reviews on this book are mostly from people who started the series with this book, and didn't get the whole picture. Pendergast is simply a great mix of intellect and bad ass, somewhere between Sherlock Holmes and James Bond (with out the high tech gadgets). I do wish they would make a movie of this series. If they did he could become the our next movie hero like Bond or Indian Jones. I loved it!
He adds the perfect vintage accents that really help define Pendergast and his character.
The plot was pretty good and the story moved along well enough to keep me listening. The narrator was adequate but it did take a little while to get used to his monotone voice. What really got annoying was the continued ways that the main suspect kept miraculously getting out of grasp of Lou Bolt (the main detective). After a while all the silly mistakes, misfortunate events, and bad decisions from the police officers became kind of silly and I felt like I was stuck in ground hogs day. Other than that, the characters were likeable and the ending was satisfying. Overall the book was ok. If you have a few credits to spare and can't find anything else I would say go for it, but I am not going to race right out to grab another Ridley Pearson book. I'll keep looking for something better.
