When the beautiful and precocious sisters Sally and Gillian Owens are orphaned at a young age, they are taken to a small Massachusetts town to be raised by their eccentric aunts, who happen to dwell in the darkest, eeriest house in town. As they become more aware of their aunts' mysterious and sometimes frightening powers - and as their own powers begin to surface - the sisters grow determined to escape their strange upbringing by blending into "normal" society.

Practical Magic is one of my favorite movies. I've watched it more times than I can count and no matter how many times I watch it, I'm always entertained. With that said, it's also a testament to how Hollywood will take a story and twist it for the screen and box office. I did my best to keep an open mind while listening to the book and to take the story for what it was. As a story I was engaged but mostly because I wanted to see how the story played out. Parts of the story were in line with the movie and other parts explored other aspects of the characters. Overall I found the characters lacking and unexciting. Indications of paranormal skills were mostly eluded to and very little information about those skills was ever brought forth in the story. The Aunts played only a small part in the book and the magic they performed was nominal and rather anti-climactic. I've been going back and forth between giving the book a three or four star rating by taking the movie out of the equation, but in the end because the story lacked a fair amount of excitement and magic, a three is the best i could offer.

The purpose of this book is to bring the "Parallel Worlds Theory" as known to physics and science fiction into application in your personal reality and everyday life. You can "create" your reality by becoming the parallel-world version of yourself for whom the experience you want is already real.

I bought this book because of the great reviews he received. I am not fond of Frederick Dodson. His techniques has you bringing your doubt of what you want into the picture and asking you to think in baby steps rather than thinking big. He brings too much of the ego into the picture rather than asking a person to look into their soul's desire - this is where the Universe lives and the Universe will answer what the soul asks for. I'll be returning this book.

How to focus energy in the form of thought, word and deed to attract, create and manifest wealth, health and love. Beyond the shallow waters of new-age, "law of attraction" and conventional motivational psychology there is a deep well from which you derive unbending determination and strength. That source is within you and can be awakened to achieve anything. The Reality Creation Technique is the most speedily effective method to help you make your dreams come true.

Maybe this book is good for people who still have too many negative thought patterns that need taming. My belief and the belief of many of the coaches I've been listening to basically say think negative thoughts and negativity is drawn to you. From what I understand, what Frederick is saying, if you mix your doubts in with your affirmations, you will eventually get bored with those negative thought patterns and you'll be only thinking your positive affirmations. Maybe some people need to go through these exercises, but not me. I also think there are more positive teachers out there and I would be inclined to search them out first before following Frederick Dodson

A good story about two dysfunctional families that manage to find peace and become functional. The story was good, the narrator was good but by the time I got to the 20th hour I was more than done and wanted this book to be over. I don't have the cleanest language around but I grew really tired of how many times the F@#$ word was used in so many different contexts. Pissed off, F#&@ was used, making love F&@# was used, everyday conversation it was F#@&ing this and F#!@ing that. Then they'd lay into their kids about foul language. I also get really tired of these good looking guys who are supposed to be just wonderful men but throw their manliness and you do what I say persona around. It gets pretty tiring. When I read romance stories like this I begin to wonder if this is what most women want. Oh well. It was worth the credit because it was an easy listen and it was what I needed at the time, but I'm not sure I'll read any more of Kristen's books.

I'm going to review this book and the first in the series here. In the end, my opinion on both books are about the same. There's non stop action throughout the story but overall, it left me wanting more. Especially with the so called magic always present. I don't feel like there was much substance to it and if the sorcerer didn't have some sort of do-dad to perform his/her magic, then they couldn't do much of anything. Another thing that drove me nuts were the number of characters and the odd ball names. I could never keep track of some of the characters and I felt like the author had some list of off the wall names and attached one to everyone even if they had one role in the story and you never heard about them again. This was a long story and there was so much info repeated. I honestly could not wait for this book to be over and would have given up if I had not invested so much time in the story. I only picked up the second installment because I hoped it would pull the massive amount of information from the first story together. Lots of people got killed, that's about all that happened. I'm done with this series

The book description falls short on the content of this book. Had I known how much Christian Evangelical content I would have to listen to and to a constant barrage of gay retoric I would have to endure, I would have returned this book had it not been for the fact I purchased it as part of a three for two credit deal and I was stuck with it. Neither the description given nor the sample eludes to a story of Gays vs Christian. I am neither Gay nor Christian and found the content irritating. While I congratulate Jody for her creative work adding music to the book, I found myself fast forwarding through the music because it was not my kind of music.

299 Days: The Preparation, the first audiobook in the 299 Days series, depicts the inner struggles Grant must face as he exists in a social system he recognizes as unsustainable and on the verge of collapse, but one in which he has built his life around. What begins as a return to his roots, self-sufficiency and independence, becomes a full blown move to prepare for what may come.

    Story

I'm actually writing a review for this entire series. I've been debating on how I should really rate this book and why I am giving it only three stars. After reading the first three in this series, I was totally sucked in and I decided I would commit 10 credits to listen to the entire series. If I had stopped at this point, I would have given it four and maybe even five stars. I could relate to what was going on and could believe that this is how it could go down with a collapse of our economic system and government. I am a believer that the system is failing and will continue to fail. It also made me think that it is time to start preparing for the worst. However, once I got into book four, I found the author repetitive and unnecessarily verbose and I found myself saying 'come on, get on with it'. I think many hours could have been chopped off with some better editing. There are over 92 hours of story here and I think the whole story could have been told in 30 hours with better editing. In fact I would have put up with the extremely conservative point of view presented in this story. I am not a die hard liberal but I was offended by how liberals were portrayed as ignorant and the conservatives as the only ones with brains in their heads. I also think the narrator got bored with the story because I found his narration to become monotone and slower especially by book 7 through 9. By 10, his narration improved but I'm not even going to finish the book because the hard core conservative point of view and the endless stories for each of the Colonels is really not necessary to get the author's point of view across.

All I can say is if you decide you really want to listen to this book, be sure increase the playback speed to as fast as you can handle it. Even though Scott Brick does a flawless job of narration, his over dramatic tendencies drug this story out even longer than needed. On top of the fact this story could have been edited down by half. I wanted to start pulling my hair out by the 10th hour. Harlan Coben is a wonderful storyteller and there was evidence of his skill although his immaturity as a writer showed through. He gives us fair warning to not read this book if this was your first book written by him. That's a pretty good indication of what you can expect from the story. Whether this is your first or tenth Coben book, I would suggest you heed the advice of the other reviewers before dropping the credit. Overall, the book is filled with beautiful people who are supposed to be smart but doing stupid things. Throughout the book expect to get inundated with the most beautiful women in existence and men stumbling around them with their tongues hanging out. There are also a good many people doing evil and underhanded things which, in the end will turn out to be worthless and totally without common sense. I don't know why I punished myself through 17 hours of torture. I only wished I realized sooner, rather than 12 hours in to the story I could speed up my playback.

It's been a long time since a book has moved me to tears of happiness. Worth the credit
