When John Rain, the Japanese/American "contract killer with a conscience" (Entertainment Weekly), learns that his former lover, Midori, has been raising their child in New York, he senses a chance for reconciliation, perhaps even for redemption.

This book was different because it was written in the first person. It made listening to it different in a good way. I would definitely look for this author again. It had intrigue, love interests, comedy and good twists.

  • Dust: Kay Scarpetta, Book 21

After working one of the worst mass killings in U.S. history, Scarpetta returns home to Cambridge, Massachusetts. Exhausted and ill, she's recovering at home when she receives an unsettling call. The body of a young woman has been discovered on the Massachusetts Institute of Technology's rugby field. The victim, a graduate student named Gail Shipman, is oddly draped in ivory linen and posed in a way that is too deliberate to be the killer's first strike.

What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?

The story could have been so much better.

EVERYONE is angry in this book. Lost the story because everyone's bad attitude made it unenjoyable.

Has Dust turned you off from other books in this genre?

No, but I think Patricia Cornwell has either lost her gift or was in a very dark place when she wrote this book. I have been following these characters for over 20 years. I really hope this isn't the end.

    Which scene was your favorite?

    none

What character would you cut from Dust?

    none

    Any additional comments?

    I have said it all

Daunted by the singular tastes and dark secrets of the beautiful, tormented young entrepreneur Christian Grey, Anastasia Steele has broken off their relationship to start a new career with a Seattle publishing house. But desire for Christian still dominates her every waking thought, and when he proposes a new arrangement, Anastasia cannot resist.

What would have made Fifty Shades Darker better?

After the first book I was looking forward to hearing the second book. Unfortunately, by the second book I got sick of the mannerism of the performer (possibly in the book, but still irritating). And seriously, this girl is supposed to be 'new' to sex, yet this book is a story around sexual escapades and I am sorry, a woman is not going climax with her guy everytime.
The author is good at cliff hangers at the end of the books, but I have no interest in hearing the third book.

Has Fifty Shades Darker turned you off from other books in this genre?

Yes. Don't want a perfect girl and perfect guy. There is no such thing.

How did the narrator detract from the book?

Her voice really irritated me after awhile

What character would you cut from Fifty Shades Darker?

The main characters are very shallow

    Any additional comments?

Done with this author. She may be making $$$ hand over fist, but not from me. Fun to hear the first one because it was so different than anything I had ever heard and it is fun to know what people are talking about when they say "fifty shades of crazy" etc. but just a bit too much fluff for me.
