The Story is really quite good, and the Narration is also well done... Except ... for the...Huge ... Dramatic pauses. I had to for the first time shift to a high speed play back on this book. The pauses between every three words drove me crazy. The voice acting was excellent and the voices consistant. I suppose that this is really an editing issue, step up the speed everything would be excellent!

Again the Story line is Great and the characters are fun adn interesting, speed it up and it works just fine.

With a new narrator some of the pronunciation was a little off from what I was expecting but the narration was excellent even so. The story was very slow to get going and then spent a great deal of time not really talking about much of importance to the story. There was some interesting plot details. The growth and importance of an industrial base to a war is an interesting study.

This book just introduced us to the characters and gave enough of a taste that I almost have to get the next one just to see what happens. The plot development is good and the characters are interesting. Long way to go to get introduced to them, it is like reading a Robert Jordan Novel in that way, I expect this to go to book 13 or 14.

Only small complaint is the pointless changing of time units, from hours to arn, this is pointlessly complicated for no real reason. With all the new races and strange character names really adding this unnecessary change is silly.

That aside the book was well written and the characters are interesting, the setting is unusual. I will definately read the rest of the books.

The dramatic pauses are getting a bit long at some points and really distracted from the reading.

Fun and entertaining historical fiction. The characters are interesting and the storyline is entertaining. I enjoyed the book in print and the voice acting made the story better. Looking forward to the rest of the series.

I remember loving this book when I first read it and it was just as good the second time around. Brilliantly complex take on the swashbuckling story. The only negative is probably personal, I didn't care for the sound effects, some were just off, and others pulled me out of the story.
Overall it was an excellent listen and if you like sound effects it will be splendid.

Very informative and full of history that people can relate to on a personal level. I won’t look at a glass of tea or beer again without thinking “Wow, I really know a huge amount about where this came from and the socio-politics that made this drink possible.”
Interesting thing that stuck in my brain was that the Industrial Revolution began around the same time that people stopped drinking Beer for breakfast (not a joke) and switched to Coffee and Tea.

Two words "Bacon Cappuccino" That really should be all I have to say but apparently I have to say 15 words.

If you like "The Dresden Files" then you will probibly like this one. Less gritty and noir than Dresden, but the same idea. AND Oberon! As another reviewer mentioned talking animals can go horribly horribly wrong. Not so in this case. This one is written very well, caused me several spit takes and strange looks as I laughed out loud while listening on earphones.
The main character can seem a bit flat at times but that is common in the first book in a series. The book is not a deep philosphical treatse it is a light fun Fantasy novel set in the modern day, like Urban Shaman.
A fun and light read for the weekend.

The book was excellent and really detailed, which was good to a point. I don't know what I would have cut as an editor because it was an insightful examination of the Finches and other examples of speciation, but I found that at the halfway point I found myself thinking "really only I am only half way through the book? I could teach a course on this from the information that I have been given so far. What more could they possibly have to say?" Then the author would give me more great information that backed what he was saying.

Really an insightful and information packed read that gives the Real world life of scientists actively doing science and teh results that they are coming up with. Just a bit too long.

This book is written "entirely from secondary" or further removed sources and started as a preface to a book on Magellaen. It is Full of historical errors and bald suppositions touted as fact. They wore only wool, they used spices to hide the rotting food, peasants went around naked in summer, thought the world was flat, lived to be 25 and married at 9, the catholic church was horrible but the protesants were cool and enlightened (except for that whole antisemite thing)
So many errors that You would have to rewrite the book to list them all. author should hav seriously done some research or simply relied on Non-Victorian sources.
Don't Waste your Money. There are lots of good histories of the time period, this is not one of them.
