Truer words could not be spoken, when in the introduction, the narrator says, "performed by Ruby Dee". The narrator is none other than Ruby Dee, and her performance is spectacular! I listened to this book with my teenage granddaughter and we were enthralled. I remember when I first read the book while in college, how I frequently read out loud, to audibly hear the voice of the characters of the story. It is a story begging to be read aloud. Ruby Dee masterfully captures all the characters and voices. It is beautiful and mesmerizing. I loved it. This is my all time favorite audio book.
I enjoyed the story. The characters were familiar. The life lessons were touching. This is a good book for young adults
After spending all of the time listening to this book, and telling friends, along the way, how much I was enjoying the story, I feel like I may have to apologize to them after they get to the end of it. What a letdown! I really had been enjoying it all the way up to the last paragraph. The ending was that abrupt. I felt like there was a part of the book that I hadn't downloaded! And that left me dissatisfied.... Like I had been enjoying a good meal and someone suddenly cleared the table while I still had the fork in my hand.
